If Drake looks smug and Dave Grohl looks a little stricken in the photos above, there's a good reason: Nielsen tracking indicates hip-hop and R&B have officially become the most dominant form of popular music in the United States for the first time ever.
As HuffPo reports, the reason for hip-hop's supremacy25 percent of the retail music market over 23 percent for rockmay not be a big surprise.
The reason for hip-hop and R&B overtaking rock is simple: online streaming. When it comes to album sales, rock continues to dominate, claiming 43 percent of physical album sales and 37 percent of digital album sales.
But R&B and hip-hop have come to utterly dominate the online streaming market, where they make up 29 percent of all songs streamed online ― thats almost the exact same amount as rock and pop combined.

“To your point, theres bands from 70s and 80s still touring today - doubt youll see that from these CRap artists”
They are all killing each other. Sort of a self limiting disease.
“Hip hop is nothing more than jungle music with lyrics”
Real Africans despise them.
“Not to mention you will hear the N-word in every song like a trademark.”
They know what they are...and so do all the rest of us.
Now I use the app and send the audio to my speakers by either smartphone or tablet. Very convenient as my Wi-Fi has a strong signal. I also like listening to the On Demand shows that the XM/Sirius App gives you. So I can stream shows like Celtic Crush or Tom Petty's Buried Treasure any time I want.

You mean like Public Enemy?
“Rock n Roll died with the advent of grunge in the 1990s.”
Metal, house etc didn’t help either. Although in retrospect compared to hip hop crap those were salad days. The popular music from the 50’s even up to the 90’s was reflective of a still healthy, robust, traditional America. Hip hop, rap etc on the other hand are dispositive of the debauchery and corruption of all that has been good.
Does his dog come back to life, too?
I don’t believe this.
They do have hip hop/rap requirements for every movie made though. Just like their other ridiculous quotas for movies and TV. It’s so bad that we all joke about it before watching movies. We play the game, “How many minutes into the movie before we hear that garbage”. It usually doesn’t take long.
I would hope a real man would never give up his dog. I’d hate a song where the dog died.
So why is it that whenever The Beatles release yet another rehash of old songs, it goes straight to Number One on iTunes?
“Rock n Roll’s been going downhill ever since Buddy Holly died.”
Down at the Astoria the scene was changing
Bingo and rock were pushing out x-rating
We were the first band to vomit at the bar
And find the distance to the stage too far
Meanwhile it’s getting late at ten o’-clock
Rock is dead they say
Long live rock
Long live rock! I need it every night
Long live rock! Come on and join the line
Long live rock! Be it dead or alive
People walk in sideways pretending that they’re leaving
We put on our makeup and work out all the lead-ins
Jack is in the alley selling tickets made in Hong Kong
Promoter’s in the pay box wondering where the band’s gone
Back in the pub the governor stops the clock
Rock is dead they say
Long live rock
Long live rock! I need it every night
Long live rock! Come on and join the line
Long live rock! Be it dead or alive
Landslide, rocks are falling, falling down upon our very heads
We tried but you were yawning. Look again
Rock is dead
Rock is dead
Rock is dead
The place is really jumping to the high watt amps
‘Til a twenty inch cymbal fell and cut the lamps
In the blackout they danced right into the aisle
And as the doors fly open even the promoter smiles
Someone takes his pants off and the rafters knock
Rock is dead they say
Long live rock
Long live rock! I need it every night
Long live rock! Come on and join the line
Long live rock! Be it dead or alive
Same goes for Techno.
“Ok, please post a link to a good hip hop song.”
A little old but one of my favorites.

Beethoven would kick your ass for that.
“Bro Country” is just as bad.
Real African music is good stuff. Some of the most intricate guitar playing you'll hear.
But their names AND music or written talents will be forever. Not so the “composers” you hear now.
