The young women, all in their 20s, thought it would be easy to float down Muskegon River, in Michigan, on Tuesday but ended up getting lost along the river. They were forced to spend the next 20 hours huddled together in the cold, scared and yelling for help.
The women, who had never been tubing before, had been told by someone at the Maple Island Road Bridge that the river goes in a circle so they presumed they would come back to their car.
Muskegon Township Deputy Fire Chief Bob Grabinski said: Not knowing anything, they set off on their little adventure.
It was only when it started to get dark and their car was nowhere to be found that the women, who didnt have a phone on them, decided to get out and wait for help on the riverbank.
The Fire Chief added: They said they hugged a tree all night yelling for help.
Eventually, a fisherman floating the river heard their cries for help and called 911. Firefighters found the women about a quarter of a mile downriver and apart from a few scratches, they were fine, Grabinski said.
He added: In their words, theyre never going tubing again. My words are know the river or take someone with you who knows it and have a plan.
While at the time, it must have been terrifying, their memories will massage the facts to leave them with a once in a life time (relatively positive) experience.
As Churchill said, "nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result."
Y’all have rivers that run in circles up in your neck of the woods?
I’m shocked at this story because black people DO NOT swim. I don’t know why but it’s basically true!
Does the water run uphill both ways in these circular rivers?
You be hatin’
This is too funny for words.
Remember folks...if there ever is any kind of *Apocalypse*...their older brothas will be marauding your hood for food, gasoline, etc..
That is just Maxine Waters level stupid.
[The river goes in a circle????]
Must have thought this was like a ‘lazy river’ water park ride.
It’s too bad they were rescued so quickly. Otherwise, they would have been candidates to win a major Darwin Award.
Big mistake: I thought (before I read the article) they’d be blondes.
Yeah, right!
Go to NYC and try the Hudson River that goes around Manhattan to the East River via a little nice pond called the Atlantic Ocean.
Come see the sites on a tube.
Rivers do go in circles. It’s just a really big circles that includes evaporation and precipitation and isn’t really good for tubing.
Yeah, but they don't ask for directions.
My words are the only water that flows in a circle are located in your toilet. Rivers don't flow in circles.......
Grad. School?
I can’t believe no one asked the obvious question ....are they blondes?
I see by the photo that they are not.
River goes half way across Michigan. They could have died on one of the dams. Wicked joke that one.
I have a Ugandan acquaintence who I jokingly asked if he wanted to go swimming during the recent heat wave. His First reaction was “ why do you want to execute Me?” When I explained I was only trying to be considerate, he asked how big are the crocs in the Schuykill. I gave up.
LOLOLOL!!!
