Your father sounds well raised, but in response to a gentleman ceding the right of way a lady should acknowledge that politeness with a nod or other gesture. They shouldn’t just continue like a juggernaut.

She should, however if she doesn’t it changes nothing for me. For all I know she may be blind or deaf or terribly worried with something on her mind. She may be on her way to save my own mother’s life. I don’t know. I must assume that her intentions and wishes are as noble as mine, and treat her like a lady. I would reference all young men to Man of LaMancha as a role model. Whether it be up the beaches of Iwojima or a stroll to the grocery store. A man’s duty, burden and privilege are all one in the same. Honor is honor. I’m not saying I meet that goal, but I witnessed a man attempting it while I was growing up. And I will remember.
