3 of my family members passed away from glioblastoma multiforme tumors. Most patients over 70 don’t go through the Operation[s], Radiation and Chemo treatments. They choose to go home or into hospice care with pain medication. The operations to remove the tumors are horrible. Recover is painful and in some cases the patient loses use of body functions. At 80 years old, the treatment would not be worth the suffering.
I don't begrudge McCain treatment options for his cancer - I also don't resent average Americans who want similar care... Congress is debating 'InsuranceCare' ... what we should be looking at is 'healthcare'...
ASK MCCAIN IF HE WOULD AGREE TO GO ON OBAMACARE RIGHT NOW
Medicaid expansion is Obamacare.
A LOT worse than McCain is going to be treated.
His wife is worth what, a couple hundred MILLION dollars? The fact is he can afford the best care found in the entire world on her interest payments and dividends alone.
Just because he gets better care than you or I doesn't mean anything other than his wife is so damn rich insurance is meaningless, in fact I bet he hasn't even filed the paperwork yet if it meant a hassle or time restraint in his care.
The Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program
So much for public service, eh?
I’m sorry to hear about your struggles.
Prayers up for you.
Oh!
Prayers for you both!!!
Also true, but the administration of that expansion is up to the states. So I guess if you consider expanded Medicaid under the umbrella of “Obamacare” then you’d have to consider which state the hypothetical 80-year-old lived in.
An 80’yo wouldn’t be on obamacare. At age 80 we’re covered by Medicare - which would provide chemo but which has limits on treatment/drugs that can be used. McCain’s likely also covered with the golden policy all legislators enjoy - which means the providers will get paid more and he’ll have access to more drugs and more expensive treatments. But between that policy and medicare, he’ll have same financial limits on treatments everyone else gets. A million, two million, etc. After that, like the rest of us, he’ll be out of pocket until his assets are liquidated, but even then, treatment will be limited to what he can afford.
when you raised your right hand 50 years ago, the gubment promised your dependents would also get free health care for life - as a reward for their sacrifice of being part of a nomadic family. That’s longgone with the wind, along with free health care for veterans not based on income. Which is pretty sad considering only about 1% of the population is military and their (now grown and old) dependents
DING...DING...DING...Winner...his wife can buy him the best care, however for ME...I cannot buy the best care at any facility which takes Medicare patients, because I’m told the clinic cannot allow payments outside of Medicare, or they will lose their license. BUT, I’M NOT A SENATOR.

Well, it’s probably preferable to the free market. What do you think the premiums would be for an 80 year old with brain cancer? And that assumes you could find an insurance company would provide coverage in that case.
In the 1100 Charter of Liberties, it was considered “evil and oppresive” for law makers to be above the law.
Quit being “respectful” to tyrants. Grow a pair before they send you to the gulag.
Sorry to hear that, but thank you for sharing that personal story. We sometimes have to hear these things. sff
Actually, I seem to remember a thread recently about what percentage of the population served and was surprised to learn that it was actually about 7%. Here’s a link that sheds some light on the numbers. Still a small portion.
