I dropped the cable tier having BBC America (a.k.a., ST:TNG Rerun Channel) last year, so I have not seen any of the Season 10 Doctor. I will wait for it on Amazon Prime (not Amazon streaming videos).
Capaldi seemed to have trouble fitting the role. I couldn’t stand Companion Clara. She was too bossy the first Capaldi season and it took most of that Season for Capaldi to even start acting like a Doctor Who. Rumors had been circulating since the first Capaldi season that he was not content with the role and wanted out.
Capaldi was good in The Musketeers.
Yup. Best thing about the show.
Also good: the actor and actress playing the king and queen.
I can’t STAND Capaldi as The Doctor. He was good as Frobisher in the multi-part episode of Torchwood, ‘Children of Earth’, but as The Doctor he’s lefty-politically-preachy and comes off as old and dour.
I liked David Tennant and Matt Smith as 10 and 11. They brought some energy and humor to the role. Clara I actually liked too.
They’re really pushing the gay stuff, too. No, every third person on the planet isn’t gay.
I disagree about Capaldi. I thought he was much more Doctor-like from the start than any of the other recent Doctors. He brought back a much more classic Doctor Who feel than Tennant or Smith. His character went through a similar transition as William Hartnells first Doctor from aggressive and unempathetic to frank but (more or less) lovable, and Colin Bakers sixth Doctor was much more annoying, blunt, and insulting than Capaldis started off as. Capaldi also had more of the Pertwee third Doctor vibe and Tom Bakers fourth Doctors alienness going on already in Season 8 too.
Im going to hate to see Capaldis Doctor go, especially now that theyre making such a huge P.C. change by turning the Doctor into a woman. He was in the masterpiece Heaven Sent, which I think is the best Doctor Who episode of the new or classic series and is practically a piece of cinematic art in my opinion. He was sometimes let down by poor scripts (a little too often), but he was also in several of the best DW episodes and is a fine and nuanced actor.
(Just a warning: the show went full SJW this past season. It was the most politicized season of all in a sci-fi show that shouldnt be political at all. The first part of the finale especially was brilliant and disturbingly creepy, though, and I liked the mind-bending Extremis one, so there are still worthwhile aspects to Season 10. I just had to grit my teeth and ignore the lefty preachiness.)
