A progressive, mustachioed Bernie Sanders supporter has shot to fame after announcing a challenge to Republican house speaker Paul Ryan.
Democrat Randy Bryce, who goes by @IronStache on Twitter, is an ironworker, union organiser and veteran who launched his bid for Wisconsins first congressional district on Monday.
Since then, his evocative campaign advert, which shows a denim- and boot-clad Bryce discussing healthcare with his mother and engaging in various forms of metalwork, has been watched more than 330,000 times, and the 52-year-old has attracted a level of internet acclaim rarely seen among political candidates.
I knew that we would have a successful launch, Bryce told the Guardian on Thursday. But I honestly did not have any kind of idea it would blow up as big as it has.

Uh oh! The GOPe flying monkeys will be dispatched to attack you on this thread!
Heck, we’re just trading one dimbulbcrat for another.
And RINO is in essence a dimbulbcrat.
Ryan can assume room temp and the party will be improved.
Wrong. Getting rid of ryan in exchange for losing one gop seat is a great bargain. A new dem will have no seniority in the minority party. Getting rid of the traitor dirtbag ryan is worth losing more than one seat actually.
Can you elaborate on why you feel this way?
When I look at this pragmatically I think a liberal progressive will just be another voice in their outnumbered choir. But the trade for getting rid of a lying back stabber like Ryan would not only be a benefit, it might give others who claim republican membership some courage in the future.
Am I that far off?
Yep, and so is his buddy Mutt RINOmney. I suspect both of them purposely sabotaged their campaign in 2012 right at the end so the employee of the Muslim brotherhood could win a 2nd term. Remember how bad Obama did in the debates? Plus his “you didn’t build that” statement? I knew lefties who said they had it with him and were voting for Romney then whoops, that video of Romney comes out along with Ryan debating like a brain dead moron then they all but disappear off the face of the earth a week before the election using Hurricane Sandy as an excuse. Both of them are sickening frauds. There are so many like them, so many Dem operatives in the Repub party it’s insane with John McCain being the worst. That guy don’t even try to hide it.
He would not be better than Ryan.
Ryan needs to be replaced as speaker. Should have happened already.
To remove hom from congress, primary him out.
No moe Democrats ever!
No more Bernie Sanders leftists, no more Obama’s, no more Clintons.
Just none if them.
“I know many conservatives, but no RINOs who just might support him.”
Then they are NOT conservatives.
No...you share my sentiment
Respectfully, my good FRiend, I do not agree.
A (cough, cough) Ryan in the Congress is better than an America-hating Dem/progressive/Marxist.
Yes.
There are a lot of mixed up people here and a lot of fakers.
You’re post is the money post. Much better to lose Ryan to a lunatic. It would send shockwaves through the Republican party.
So they accomplished their goal. A quick scan of all the responses and nobody mentioned that Paul Nehlen has already announced as a conservative businessman Republican to primary the weasel.
“Uh oh! The GOPe flying monkeys will be dispatched to attack you on this thread!”
The thread advocates electing a Marxist to congress.
Just when you thought Wisconsin couldn’t come up with a bigger joke candidate than Paul Nehlen.
No, you are right, Ryan is the bigger hazard.
Are you referring to either candidate specifically, or both of them?
“So they accomplished their goal. A quick scan of all the responses and nobody mentioned that Paul Nehlen has already announced as a conservative businessman Republican to primary the weasel.”
That is whom to support.
The others on this thread are not conservatives.
Some are moles for the left.
Wouldn't it take a massive tide of support for the Democrats to take him to Washington?
With other vulnerable Republicans who might be more valuable than Paul Ryan losing their seats?
Don't they already have one?
Sometimes you have to stand back and say "a plague o' both your houses".
I agree. He is hurting us more than that Progressive who might beat him would ever do as a junior member of the House.
