The Cadillac Catera was a rebadged Opel and not just a massive flop but a laughingstock, the ads were unintentionally hilarious featuring a rubber duckie. That did not begin Cadillac’s renaissance at all. What began it was the Art & Science styling with more of a sharp edged look and a strong concentration on the grille and Cadillac crest area.

This new Continental does not resemble the Rolls, it resembles a Bentley and the two are not all that similar anymore, being owned by different companies now.

That said, this new Continental looks quite nice. I’m a little disappointed that they went sort of derivative of an outside marque rather than relying upon their own impressive history as far as styling influences though.

It’s awful hard to justify buying a Lincoln when you could have a comparably equipped Ford Fusion for $15,000 less.

I’m glad to see the folks are Lincoln are returning to their senses.

If they would only return to a RWD sedan like the Town Car was - they would clean up.

They need to bring back the early 60’s suicide doors.

If there is a weakness in the Connie’s armor belt, it is that that the car is based on a front-wheel-drive platform — industry speak for the car’s underlying chassis — whereas most of the Players in the premium-car class are based on rear-wheel-drive platforms.

But not all of them.

Audi, for one.

The RWD-based layout is nominally preferable for high-speed cornering — because the weight of the drivetrain is spread out more evenly, front to rear than in a FWD-based car, which has most of its drivetrain weight over the front wheels. But the FWD-based layout is preferable for traction — especially in the wet and snow.

FWD = sucks.

Would rather have one from the 1960’s, the convertible. Those were the classic cars. Do you they even have a convertible now? Doubtful.

“in the late 1990s with the introduction of the Catera...-Cadillac redefined itself as the American luxury-sport brand. So, it can be done.”

The Catera? That was a joke of a car that cost over $37K with typical options for 1997 and was disingenuously marketed to working women who wouldn’t have known they were gonna be ripped off. It was image over substance and so typical of the ‘90’s.

Some day someone is going to design a car for entry/egress savior-faire, fair weather or foul. It’s a good thing I haven’t been holding my breath waiting, tho . . .

The Lincoln Continental of old had class.
The stink was put on it, through two things:
1. the doors swung from the ‘wrong’ jambs;
2. it was the style of car that Kennedy was shot while riding.

This ‘new brew’ of styling is too metrosexual for my tastes.

I drove one for a week late February. Never been a Lincoln or Continental fan. I absolutely loved this car even though it’s too big and not quite tight enough a suspension. If they’d make this Fusion sized (MKZ?) I think it might be one of the best luxury sedans on the market.

When I was a kid working in a filling station my boss had a 73 Olds 98. Finest car I ever drove. Can you imagine floating down the road at 70mph on your couch?
