Do you buy insurance covering your carrying guns, specifically CCW, but any for that matter? And if you are a range safety office, do you buy insurance coverage for that?
I am also a range safety officer (RSO), certified by NRA, and have acted as RSO in various shooting events. While these clubs have their own insurance, I see NRA, among others, also promoting insurance.
Okay, I realize there is insurance for almost everything--even flying our RC airplanes can be covered (and we do) in case we crash into something expensive or hurt someone.
Anyway, what are your thoughts and recommendations on the topic?
I just completed my CA carry training a couple weeks ago. They highly recommended getting insurance - especially in sue-happy CA. However, they did not discuss options, so I look forward to responses to this thread....
Make sure you get uninsured shooter coverage
I’d love to concealed carry in California, which is just 5 miles from my home. Always gives me pause about trip planning to realize I cannot conceal carry if I drive west, plus have to be careful about which guns I even have in the car. My constitutional rights don’t apply, which as a veteran, even one previously stationed in California, is particularly irking.
Not to sidetrack us too far into comparative insurance options, but wonder if there is No Fault insurance?
There is. It’s called “stovepipe “ coverage ;)
I added banglist to the keywords. You should have.
“Make sure you get uninsured shooter coverage”
Will I save 2500.00 a year and have my deducts go to 10 Grand? /sarc
Your HOI company probably offers a competitive Umbrella policy- mine is $1 million and costs less than $200 per year.
dedicated insurance like NRA or others may be as economical.
Also Kill the person double tap wait a few minutes before calling 911 its cheaper to kill than keep someone alive for 20 years in a coma
Do these policies cover civil liability? Or just legal fees?
The comparable NRA Carry plan, for $359 annually, is described as "NRA Carry Guard Personal Firearms Liability Insurance Including Self-Defense Insurance $1,000,000Bodily Injury & Property Damage Combined Single Aggregate Limit $150,000**Criminal Defense, Settlement, Supplementary Payments (20% available up front and 80% available on a reimbursement basis)"
These are not really apples-to-applies. NRA covers spouse, etc.
My Glock 23 is my insurance.
Investigate Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. It's run by Marty Hayes and his wife. I just talked to Marty at the NRA show. When a member has an incident and calls their phone number, that phone is in Marty's possession 24/7. Marty has people on speed dial that can help, including Massad Ayoob and a lot of other expert witnesses. Tom Gresham of Gun Talk was an initial investor.
Most importantly, the Network has a million dollars cash ready to go to help members. I've been a member four years now.
This Ping List is for all things pertaining to the 2nd Amendment.

IMO this is the worst idea ever devised.
If it becomes known you carry special insurance for a gun fight, it makes one look like they are out looking for trouble. Especially to modern juries.
Not admissible. Tort or criminal.
If you drive a motor vehicle, everyone assumes you have 100/300/100 coverage. They see your vehicle and you.
If you CC, how would anyone except closest family know? If you are telling folks “hey, I carry”, you probably shouldn’t.
Then again, if someone decides to make you shoot them so they can sue for injury etc, they would be Darwinian risk takers. Shoot till the lethal threat stops, then call an ambulance and police. Offer aid if you can.
CCW insurance covers your defense fees if you are charged with a crime after your self defense incident. It does not protect you from being sued by the victim's family.
