It’s only good for one thing: making gravlax. Difficult to get a taste for but it is cultural— witness, Ouzo, Arak, etc.

Over Ice is Nice.
Can add a bit of water if you want to savor it longer without getting loopy.

When I was in college, I'd buy Ouzo because nobody would then bogart any of my booze. A few times I'd let some of my fraternity brothers have a glass or two....they'd think it was a sweet, girly drink. By morning, they were sick but when drunk, they'd be yelling OPAH!!!
Metaxa is swill but gets the job done. Babrayanni is great, and Ouzo Mini is the best (but it's not available in the US).

If you do drink/sip it straight, add about 10 coffee beans and stir. Adds a unique flavor.

I can not stand the taste of licorice.
I love the taste of anisette though. I always have a bottle of Sambuca Di Amore on hand for my cakes, cookies, biscotti and pizzelle.

Michael Corleone to Johnny Ola: How 'bout a drink? What'll ya have, Johnnie?"
Johnny: Anisette!
