Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz said the plane had crashed and two people in their early 60s were hospitalized with traumatic injuries. Both patients had vitals when they were removed from the plane, he said.
Its not clear what caused the plane to crash, he said.
As far as exactly what occurred to the aircraft, thats up to the FAA for investigation, Kurtz said.
The planes wreckage was on the southbound freeway near the MacArthur Boulevard exit, on the path that aircraft use when landing at John Wayne Airport.
The Cessna 310 aircraft landed on the freeway short of the runway at 9:35 a.m, the airport tweeted. The airfield was temporarily closed to arrivals, but departures were not affected.

They look better when they're not smashed on the highway ...
Loss of one engine confirmed by KTLA reporter who has heard ATC tape.
So do most of us!
... ummmm, gravity?
And it was, in fact, the 405!
I drive by there four days a week. Day off today though.
9:30 on the 405, how were no cars hit????
Is Harrison Ford in his early 60s?
Older. Probly flies out of Santa Monica airport.

Uber Driver Says He Was Struck by Plane That Crashed on 405 Freeway

My question exactly. We travel that road frequently when we visit my son in San Clemente and it’s packed with cars from morning to night.
No way..., Harrison Ford flys more exotic and classic birds!
An engine out in the light twins is not easily handled under the best of conditions. Especially upon take-off! Lost several friends over the years that way!
I saw this happen. The plane was very low and appeared to have just taken off since it was in the air east of the airport maybe 200 above the ground. . It was very low and I said, Man that plane is awfully low to be banking that hard. It continued as though it was making a U-turn returning to the airport and kept getting lower and banking harder until it hit the median and burst into flames.
...
Thanks for the report. Trying to return to the airport is usually the worst thing a pilot can do if there’s a total loss of power.
Who knows in this one but, often fuel exhaustion due to pilot error...
...
I was driving on the Turnpike one day and saw one of those happen. Pilot put it down on a neighborhood street and nobody was hurt.
FAA releases audio of Harrison Ford landing plane on John Wayne Airport taxiway
I know someone who is/will be reading this and exclaiming - falsely - see, we can’t privatize the air traffic control system or we will have more of these.
