European leaders vowed Thursday to defend the landmark Paris climate pact at a G20 summit next week, setting them on collision course with US President Donald Trump at what is expected to be a stormy meeting.
Leaders of Germany, France, Italy and other EU economies acknowledged their long standing ties with Washington but said they would not give in on existential threats like global warming.
They also stressed the importance of keeping markets open, warning that the protectionism and isolationism symbolized by Trumps America First stance wont solve global problems.
On the biggest challenges, Europe was now a reference point, said EU Council President Donald Tusk after the G20 preparatory meeting hosted by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The EU stood for a rules-based international system, he said, vowing that we speak with one voice at the G20 summit.

They still don’t understand American SOVEREIGNTY!
HOw exactly do they propose to fight the President of the US when he says he won’t follow their rules to the detriment of the United States?
Shall we look for an invasion from Europe, staffed by armies of refugees they took in to their sorrow.
This stuff just proves the leaders in Europe don’t have a lick of sense. If they want to follow the Paris agreement, get on with it.
“They also stressed the importance of keeping markets open, warning that the protectionism and isolationism symbolized by Trumps America First stance wont solve global problems.”
The silly bastards still haven’t figured out the American people are not interested in solving global problems.
Our interest is EXCLUSIVELY to solve our own problems, rest of the world be damned.
Pay for the PCA yourselves. That will teach Trump. /s
And I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’l blooooooow your house down
“to an extent”
Is from the Goldwater quote, not that he was in a position to define the correct state of the world.
I’ll concede he was a giant.
It’s time to debate the “extent”. I believe most of America leans farther toward isolationism, than toward interventionism.
I found it no surprise that there was no mention of funding their fare share, or implementing regulations as strict as ours are even under President Trump.
Agreed that the debate needs to start. I would put forth (at the very least) that the EU needs to be dismantled before they become a threat; their fondness for the climate change lie is just the start for them, when at their core they profess “respect for the principles of the United Nations charter”, a document based on the 1936 USSR constitution and steeped in totalitarianism and globalist imperialism.
The EU has always been about unequal “partnership” with the US.
Trump is starting that process:
1. Pressure on NATO and potential withdraw in the long run
2. Not dealing with the EU, but with individual countries
3. Pulling out of the Paris agreement
4. Intimations on steel tariffs
5. Outrage over Germany’s surplus with the US
The above are PILLARS of Europe. She’ll crumble as we follow through.
