“...1973 LTD with a 429 motor ...”
Ah, the 429 SuperCobraJet... because the 428 CobraJet just wasn’t enough!!!
I think that 429 was the same block as the 460 they put in the Lincolns. It was truly a beast.
My first mustang was a 67 GT fastback with a 390 FE series motor. 325 bucks. When I bought it, it was four flat tires, a broken rear windshield and a seriously f***ed timing chain (We found about the timing chain when it backfired through the carb as my buddy was leaning over it... his eyebrows were GONE, singed off... funniest damn thing I ever saw)
But I LOVED that old girl... scary fast.
I had that and a 71 Mach One for a little while, at the same time.
Beautiful car... Just beast.... Freaking thing has CLASS and balls of fire...
Anything like that today, right off the factory floor, that a working guy can afford without a second mortgage??
Nope.
And that is sad.
1964 Pontiac Catalina Safari
Charlie... that brings a tear to me eyes...
Freaking awesome car..
I had a 72 Cutlass convertible. Complete POS.
Plymouth... MOPAR, the slayer of Chevies and Fords...
Bought a 79 New Yorker from the Police Auction. 360 Interceptor engine. Black, unmarked cop car.
Drove it for three years before it blew a bearing. Only paid 475 bucks for it, so I couldn’t complain.
I counted it up... I’ve had 27 cars since I’ve been driving, ranging from absolute junk (the 50 dollar 73 Vega.. Brrr..) to some really nice vehicles.
I remember them all.
“...Hell I was already out of the Army and had kids by then...”
I was late baby boom. Dad was WWI Airborne, and 38 when I was born. The late 70s and 80s were my wild days.
“... complete POS...”
Some were back then. But most weren’t. Sorry you had a lousy experience with it.
I’ve had some lemons too...
Mine had the 318 in it. I could literally stand inside the engine compartment.
What a beast!

“...Dad was WWI Airborne, “
Should be WWII airborne... sorry, fat finger keyboard fart and a bunch of Jamesons...
55 Olds Super 88 here.
No sweat brother.
The 318 was their baby block. Had a GIANT heart. Buddy of mine had a Duster with a worked 318 in it.
You could a lot with little to those motors.
Same with Ford’s 289 and 302 blocks, Chevy’s 307, 327, and 350... they were great places to start a project from.
Hell, even just throwing a set of dual pipes and Cherry Bombs on the damn things gave them a couple more horsepower, letting them breathe better.
And all pre-emission controls too....
“...55 Olds Super 88...”
Damn... a Lead Sled.... Hahah!!!
Beautiful car. Love 50s vintage wheels. Never had one, but always wanted a 55 or 57 Chevy BelAir.
Nothing like them now, at all.
Too cool for words... two door, and longer than four door sedans of today.
It screams AMERICAN PRIDE...
I slapped a Holley 4 barrel on mine. Learned a lot from it.
And when I slammed the accelerator to the floor.....that thing moved!!
Good times, good times.
21 ft length...
It’s like the Donald Trump of Automobiles... gotta love it.
Never owned a Caddy... I’d love and old one, though. That 75 is perfect.
You mean like this one? It is like the one I own but I can't link a pic of mine to FR.
Had a 51 Chevy, 50 Olds 88 and 53 Pontiac Chieftain in that order. Wished I had them all back. Still want the 55 Super 88!
