When Seattle officials voted three years ago to incrementally boost the citys minimum wage up to $15 per hour, they hoped to improve the lives of low-income workers. Yet according to a major new study that could force economists to reassess past research on the issue, the hike has had the opposite effect.
The costs to low-wage workers in Seattle outweighed the benefits by a ratio of three to one, according to the study, conducted by a group of economists at the University of Washington who were commissioned by the city.

they hoped to improve
Wish and hope in one hand and...
They might conclude from studies what someone with basic reasoning skills would conclude in a couple of minutes. Or they could just ignore the studies, or cherry-pick the ones they like.
This will change nothing.
Facts and figures are superfluous.
The uneducated know nothing of economics and couldn’t care less.
All the liberals want is their votes, and that is bought with pipe dreams and promises..........
1. the government does not have the right to set a minimum or maximum hourly rate.
2. if it is raised, it will soon not be enough, and the left will agitate to raise it again, and that will not be enough, and they will push to raise it again, ..... repeat until doomsday.
“...if it is raised, it will soon not be enough, and the left will agitate to raise it again, and that will not be enough, and they will push to raise it again, ..... repeat until doomsday.”
If the leftist modus operandi is at work, we’ll soon hear how $15 per hour is too low. The plan only starts working at $50 per hour.
Our HOA which runs three restaurants and other club facilities here in AZ has cut hours and reduced employment as a result of the new minimum wage law. That and Obama care have cost a lot jobs.
With all the revision of history taking place I wonder how valid that quote is today.
Every discussion about raising minimum wage never mentions the obvious impact:
Existing Pay Structure:
Fry-dropper $10/hr
Shift Manager $15/hr
Proposed Pay Structure:
Fry-dropper $15/hr
Shift Manager quits or demands raise
Lesson: All positions would have to increase pay. Duh!
“The plan only starts working at $50 per hour.”
To really pep it up and truly jump start the liberal economy right into Utopia, just add a zero ...
I think I’ve heard that quote attributed to at least a dozen different people.......
That’s part of it. You may have forgot to put in when the price of a cup of coffee goes up 300% to cover the costs of HR, and the public doesn’t kick down your door to buy it, those high paid minimum wage employees become a detriment and a bad mark on your bottom line. Lay offs, cut hours, store hour cutbacks, all add up to taking that inflated wage back to where it was. But it also kills the sales. More of the above.

A report pointing out some basic economic reality? Time to call the authors racist and sexist.
You said:Our HOA which runs three restaurants and other club facilities here in AZ has cut hours and reduced employment as a result of the new minimum wage law. That and Obama care have cost a lot jobs.
Do HOA member dues subsidize the restaurants?
A tip of the hat to a cross state rival. lol
That was the council's mistake, should've gone to Cal Berkeley for their study.
Many restaurants here in Tucson have closed due to our increased minimum wage. My favorite NY deli was one of them.
Funny how that works...
Union workers peg their wage scales (in their contracts) to the minimum wage. I'm sure they are VERY happy in areas where the minimum wage has gone up...
...and couldn't care less about the poor saps who have lost their jobs.
Hardly. Facts - things like the laws of economics - have never mattered to liberals. Their reality, like their gender, is what they want it to be at any given moment.
Witness the study from Sweden that demonstrates conclusively that the manufacturing of massive lithium-ion batteries (like the ones used in Teslas) produces more carbon dioxide than the average conventional automobile produces in eight years. Another independent study done by an energy firm in Texas demonstrates that, not only has fracking had NO impact whatsoever on drinking water, fracking has actually reduced carbon dioxide emissions. You’ll never hear a peep from the lamestream media on either story, but they’ll continue to bang the global warming/climate change drum until we’re deaf.
