I usually carry 40 cal too. But when not in the city I have a magazine with Doubletap Ammo 200gr Lead Hard Cast Wide Flatnose Gas Check for bear threats.

I use a round that’s hollow point with a post in the center called Hydra-shocks and the bullet is split from front to back in several sections. I saw one hit a watermelon and there was just shards left.
