I use a round that’s hollow point with a post in the center called Hydra-shocks and the bullet is split from front to back in several sections. I saw one hit a watermelon and there was just shards left.
My city rounds are expanding rounds like Hydro Shock, but mine are Speer Gold Dot hollow points. The hard cast lead don’t deform, but cause damage from the wide, flat nose. These may penetrate 3 feet of bear while the self defense ammo may only penetrate 8-10 inches in a bear and not hit anything vital. That is why I change ammo between city and my home next to the Roosevelt National Forest in the Colorado Rockies.
