FORT HUACHUCA Whether folks head into the canyons or hike the trails in the game management areas to sightsee, bird watch or just experience a different side of Fort Huachuca, it is imperative to come to the MP station to sign out/in. This helps Fort Huachuca with physical accountability in the event of an emergency.
The current fire condition is very high and we're approaching monsoon season which increases the possibility of an emergency requiring our law enforcement team to evacuate areas, said Tanja M. Linton, media relations officer for Fort Huachuca Public Affairs Office. Help us keep you and our community safe. We recently had a fire on post and law enforcement personnel located over 20 people in Garden Canyon who had not signed out.
Isn’t that sort of a no-brainer these days?
Some folks have no brains.
“Monsoon season”? The US has monsoons? Is that what they call afternoon thunderstorms?
Yep, Sometimes they don’t strike until 1630hours and last raining hard until 1930hours or 2000 hours, for a true monsoon, this storm happens every day for about 5 weeks.
I spent almost a year in the White Mountains. Those daily afternoon thunderstorms were spectacular. Never smelled air so fresh as after they blew through and all the Ponderosa Pine were drenched. That was heaven!
I o just l - o - v - e the Monsoon Rain
When I was at Ft. Huachuca for the MIOAC in 1982, I use to go running up Huachuca Canyon in the afternoon. Back in those simpler times, there was no registering with MP station for doing that.
Make sure mommy knows where you are every single minute. If you were alone in the wilderness, and they didn’t have it logged, you’d be out there alone in the wilderness.....like John Muir, John Coulter, or Jim Bridger.
Remember, safety is the most important thing in America. Freedom can be dangerous.
There is that...
I got here Jun 1972, lol. Such fun.
I’ve gone on thousands of hikes, camping trips and mountain bike excursions in Alaska, Montana, North Idaho, Washington State, Yosemite, King’s Canyon/Sequoia and Oregon and I have never once checked into a Ranger Station!
I’ve told friends and family, but I don’t need to check in with the government before I go backpacking or mountain biking!
