Pope Francis has long railed against corruption and the mafia, but now the Vatican is considering developing a whole doctrine around excommunicating corrupt and mafia-tinged Catholics.
The Vatican this week hosted its first conference on corruption and organized crime, inviting 50 prosecutors, U.N. officials, bishops and victims of organized crime for a day of talks.
Organizers said in a statement Saturday that the time had come to develop a new legal doctrine for the Catholic Church around 'the question of excommunication for corruption and mafia association.'

All the mafia has to do is come out for LGBT rights or say they’re pro-abortion. The pope will then appoint them to the Vatican special counsel.
Does the Pope really think the Mafia cares about being excommunicated? I tend to doubt it. They may care about using a connection with the church to cloak or disguise incidents of money laundering. But I would guess they could always appoint a socially acceptable cover man to lie about it.
But the Pope thinks Islam is grand!!
I thought they all moved on to be Union bosses and Chicago politicians.
The Catholic Church my LibProg family belongs to is all about “Social Justice” these days and having LGBTIQETC welcoming groups.
That said, I cannot imagine any of my Mafia friends from back home putting up with ANY of this stuff.
Pelosi is Italian AND is ok with killing the innocent and probably Conservatives too....she should be on the ex-comm.list.
But, IMHO, this is probably more about MONEY than faith vs corruption. Maybe the Mob is refusing to pay for gay and Latino social justice programs and listening to how wonderful Obama was and the possibility of priests marrying and pedophiles who got a free pass.
