Shes one of the last surviving legends of Hollywoods golden age.
Her beauty and enigmatic smile saw Olivia de Havilland play alongside the biggest names of the silver screen Errol Flynn, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift.
Off screen she was romanced by the likes of Jimmy Stewart, John Huston and Howard Hughes and reportedly turned down the advances of John F Kennedy. She won two best actress Oscars in a career spanning six decades and 49 feature films many of them considered to be classics.

I recall telling my girlfriend (now my wife) years ago about this great movie. I stayed up until 3 watching it - but they never said what the name was.
I described it to her. “Oh - that’s ‘They Died with Their Boots On’, one of my favorites - we have that on tape! (Dang - I could have gone to bed!!)
I’m not sure how I phrased it so as not to get in trouble with her - maybe something about the old movie stars and how good they looked. And how the actress was REALLY good looking.
She said “That’s Olivia de Havilland - she’s still alive.”
“Wait - she’s still alive!?”
“Yeahhhh.”
“Wow! Like I could go to where she lives and see her - in real life!!!???”
“Um - yeah - but I think she lives in France....”
My wife still makes fun of me for that.
Her son died in 1991!
Wow, go figure. Well happy birthday Olivia.
I winder what her feelings are of the politics of the day.
I heard years ago that she was a huge Reagan fan.
Olivia won best actress Oscars for "The Heiress" and "To Each His Own".
A lifelong rivalry between her and Joan lasted over three decades, and they never reconciled.
Olivia was married twice to non-actors, divorced twice, two children (one with each). She had romantic affairs during her movie career, one with Howard Hughes, the airplane tycoon.... a lengthy one with actor Jimmie Stewart....and also one with director John Huston whom she really wanted to marry, but it didn't happen.
Though they deeply cared for each other, Olivia and her frequent co-star, the dashing Errol Flynn, never had an affair.
Her net worth 2016-2017 is $20 million. She has lived in Paris since 1956 and has had many French and British honours bestowed on her.
My classic movie channel featured one of her movies tonight, "Light in the Piazza" with co-star Rossano Brazzi. I watched part of it, having seen it decades ago. I was once again reminded how much of a beauty she really was.....as well as a fine actress.
Happy birthday, Olivia....you graced so many wonderful films we grew up with....my favorite being "Robin Hood" which is, in my opinion, the best early-technicolor swashbuckler movies ever made.

A million years ago I had lunch with my best friend at the restaurant in the Neiman Marcus store in San Francisco. A very elegantly dressed, older lady caught my eye. We both realized it was Joan Fontaine. You are absolutely correct, she was still stunning, beautifully dressesl and the epitome of class. Of course we didn’t approach her, but it was hard not to stare at her. They called them movie stars for a reason. Miss Fontaine was a star.
My friend and I still talk about how we saw her.
I understand that. I don’t understand the headline
Cary Grant referred to Joan as “Monkey Face” in Suspicion.
She not only out lived her sister, she one upped her with the title of Dame.
Congratulations Dame de Havilland.
My birthday!
Odd fact: the other three stars of Gone With The Wind (Leigh, Gable, Howard) lived 53 years after the movie came out—combined. De Havilland has lived 78 years—and counting.
Just watched that one! Also, did not realize she was related to founder of the aircraft company of same name.
She lived to be 96. Longevity must run in their family.
Are you asking about why the headline says “Dame”? That is her title, having received a knighthood from the British government.
Men are called “Sir,” as in Sir Michael Caine, and woman are called “Dame,” as in Dame Judi Dench.
Mr Kitty and I just finished watching GWTW again this week. I had no idea she was still alive.
She looks like she might have quite a few more years left in her.
Did you read the header or are you just being cute?
Gong....gong...gong
I assumed you had already dismissed that as a simple error and were asking a question about something else. Sorry.
And in the movie she was the only one to die while the others lived on.
