Yikes! That could start one of those hellacious range fires that killed ranchers and cattle this spring in the TX Panhandle. Collecting a couple of thousand dollars a year to have a turbine on your place might turn out to be a poor choice if the equipment fails this way.

How the Hell does the blade catch fire to begin with? Isn’t this just an engine trouble issue?

Probably more pollution in one hour from the burning wind turbine than a coal fired power plant would produce in a week. LOL

It will cost a ton of money to repair it and who knows how much downtime.

Maybe it got too hot. ;-)

A few years ago, I watched a turbine like that catch fire in Palm Springs. The whole thing fell burning to the ground and started a nasty brush fire that swept across the desert for 6 miles!

Another article said the local volunteer fire company made the decision to let the fire burn itself out.

What else would you do?

“Hey Colton, why don’t y’all try to shimmy that pipe with a hose and see if you can put that little fire out?”

I saw the Dirty Jobs tv show and they showed a team of 6 guys inside one of those 60 foot wind mills mopping up the oil that was leaking. They said it was routine maintenance. Doesn’t sound very eco friendly to me.

Maybe a piece of a sliced up bird on the endangered species list fell into the machinery.

Fortunately, a fire broke out, otherwise there would have been a backup of energy until the special radium battery exploded spreading radioactive contamination across six counties.

That’s an awful lot of black smoke and red flames.
Is this turbine petroleum powered?

"... officials are still working to determine what caused it."

Most likely the cause is associated with the wind.

Right off I-40 near Groom. I’m sure a lot of people are watching this. I’ve driven by there many times trying to count them but run out of patience.

There are about 90 all clumped together for a few miles.
