Back in 1967, when I completed my teacher training, we were told to NEVER be alone with a student in a place where you weren't clearly visible. We needed to be told that, because teachers starting out are naively optimistic about student intentions. Our advisor also gave us some real strong advice about ethics and proper social distance between students and teachers.

After all these years now of teachers making very bad decisions, you would've thought: (1)education schools would go back to teaching Ethics for Teachers and (2) Teachers should know by now to not get personally involved with students.

Milennial aged teachers are incredibly informal and personally involved with their students. They all have email accounts that they use communicate with their students regularly. They treat their students like they are all friends. They have no concept of boundaries. It’s totally different than it was even in the 90’s when I was a student.

I know a man who wanted to be a teacher his whole life. Talked about it when he was five or six years old.

He did go to college, met and married a nice girl and ended up teaching math.

After two years he quit.
He knew I was a truck driver and called me up to look into it.
I gave him my opinion and let him know about the little things that make trucking a headache.

I asked him why he wanted to drive a truck when he had a good teaching job.
He said the girls in high school were too pretty and knew no boundaries.

They both quit teaching, got their CDL’s and starting driving long haul as a team.
That was eight years ago.
They still drive long haul and LOVE it.
They both said they are glad they quit teaching.

I knew a young teacher that called in a High School girl’s mom because the girl was beginning to act-out attraction. The mother took it under advisement and then a week later she began going after the teacher herself.
