NFL should feel no pressure to hire Kaepernick
Deseret News ^ | 6 Jun, 2017 | Doug Robinson

If you believe the media, the National Football League has a duty — an obligation, really — to provide employment for (former) quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

It’s been three months since he opted out of his contract (49ers’ version: they were going to cut him anyway).

Then he sat down — or took a knee, whatever — and waited for the phone to ring. And waited. And waited. And waited.

He’s still waiting. The Seattle Seahawks gave him a sniff recently, but decided to pass. Coach Pete Carroll says it’s because Kaepernick is a starter and the Seahawks already have a starter.

You mean former starters can’t be backups? What do they think he’s been doing most of the last two years? Maybe Carroll is just heading off a potential quarterback controversy.

The New York Jets, desperate for a quarterback, preferred to sign 37-year-old Josh McCown rather than Kaepernick.

The Cleveland Browns have had 26 starting quarterbacks since the rebirth of the franchise in Cleveland in 1999. They passed on Kaepernick. They prefer Brock Osweiler.

The Cardinals passed on Kaepernick, too, instead signing Blaine Gabbert. Kaepernick replaced Gabbert as the 49ers starter last season and threw 16 touchdown passes and just four interceptions.

Joe Namath, it seems, will be offered a backup job before Kaepernick.

Anyway, the media has adopted Kaepernick as its latest pet cause. They’re always looking for causes as long as it is the right (actually left) kind.

What team would want the disruption of a left wing drama queen. He would probably have transgender surgery and become a cheerleader anyway.

If he went transgender he probably would change his first name to Vagina, but he would still be a colon.

Too much of a distraction and too divisive.

Kaepernick cost the league hundreds of millions of dollars. Who in their right mind would hire such a liability?

They prefer Brock Osweiler.

Don't know anything about him, but that's a great football name.

Heck, he doesn’t have to change the way he dresses or where takes a leak. You just have do declare yerself whatever. I, myself, am an african/asian, dwarf, womyn named “wang chung”. I will demand my employers treat me as such. (of course in real life, I will just be terminated)

Pete Carrol can recognize an obvious club-house cancer when he sees one.

“Coach Pete Carroll says it’s because Kaepernick is a starter and the Seahawks already have a starter.”

I heard a guy on sports radio say that was code for he wants starting QB money, but he is really just a backup now. So even if you could ignore the rest, he wants more money than he is worth.

The Canadian Football League doesn’t want him, either?

Any player who offends a wide swath of the his customers is not being very smart. It wouldn’t be smart to offend vegetarians, motorcycle riders, city folk, or country folk either. The NFL is a business and Kapernic hurts business. It’s just not that complicated.

My uncle had a lock and key shop when I was a boy. I saw some different type of people walk into the shop and sometimes I would comment. My uncle used to tell me, when we hang a sign up, it is our job to serve the public....not judge it. And, he took pride in helping everyone....even the folks who were distasteful. It was a valuable lesson for me...one that Kapernic obviously didn’t get....until last season.

The NFL is scared of blacks. After all they ARE the game. Guaranteed money on big contracts. A big loss on injuries, domestic violence, and the possibility the athlete will just quit playing. Blacks do their own thing and don’t care what anyone thinks. Throw in concussions that ownership would cover up and you have an everyone-for-themselves mentality that comes out.
