Number 2 shot or single O 12 gauge buckshot if I were down there (used to live in the Swamps near Naples, FL years ago...), moccasins and rattlers were the only snakes to worry about back then. As for gators..., they were "Endangered"..., so it was "Shoot, Shovel and Shut-up" with a 30-30!

I shot an almost 7 foot Florida Diamondback. Put a .30 Tokarev round through his head. I have killed a lot more smaller ones almost exclusively with a .22 LR pocket pistol, either a Walther PP or a Hungarian copy or a French Model L.
They are not hard to kill with a head shot.
