A man accidentally shot and killed his girlfriend in Arlington, according to Shelby County Sheriffs Office.
The shooting happened along South Fork Drive on Thursday.
SCSO said Brennan Fields, 18, received a gun as a graduation gift. He was playing with the gun when it accidentally fired, striking his 19-year-old girlfriend, Lucinda Luna, in the stomach.
Luna went to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

This is so sad. My heart goes out to all involved.
It was SO avoidable. So sad.

My son used his graduation money to buy a Mossberg 500 shotgun. He wants to trick it out so he bought a used one. First thing, he deep cleaned it. Even taken apart he practices muzzle control.

NEVER put your finger on a trigger unless you are sure you are pointed at someone or something you want to shootWhen you "accidentally" shoot your girlfriend, or boyfriend, or spouse, or your daughter's boyfriend, the DA has a lot of work to do.

You’re blaming her? She was at a party. A young man found a gun and was showing off and she was killed.

snip.....
Luna’s father gave Fields the gun as a gift. Stubblefield said Fields was experienced
with guns, owning several and even going to the gun range frequently.
....end snip
If the above is true then Fields did not learn the proper handling, use and care of guns.

This happened to a Marine friend. Arms room, after being on the range. Rifle checked by range officer and again in arms room, but not by my friend. Friend started to clean rifle. It was still loaded. He shot another Marine in the leg. He escaped court martial, but it definitely hurt his career. Never made O6. Retired as O5.
Can't stress too strongly. Never trust someone else's check of a gun. Check it yourself. If you put it down, check it again when you pick it up.

Pretty little thing. Pity her beau neglected two of the most basic rules regarding the handling of firearms, to wit:
ALL guns are ALWAYS loaded
Never EVER point a firearm at anything unless you want to destroy it.
