Warning: Have a hanky handy in case you tear up.
Always loved The Dillards. I have a picture of all of them with Charlene, Denver Pyle, and Andy. I have signatures of all except Denver Pyle and Andy.
It took them almost a month to get to LA from Salem, MO., but when they finally got there, within a week they had a record deal and a spot on The Andy Griffith Show.
Got to meet Rodney and Doug. Great guys.
It’s the Dillards, yes. Musicians, not actors.
The actress is lip synching.
Now that I’m older I notice and appreciate the music in the Andy Griffith show more than when I was a kid.
There is a time for love and laughter
The days will pass like summer storms
The winter wind will follow after
But there is love and love is warm
There is a time for us to wander
When time is young and so are we
The woods are greener over yonder
The path is new the world is free
There is a time when leaves are fallin'
The woods are gray the paths are old
The snow will come when geese are callin'
You need a fire against the cold
So do your roaming in the springtime
And you'll find your love in the summer sun
The frost will come and bring the harvest
And you can sleep when day is done
Yes, I do! The Darlings and the song. Then again I played Bluegrass when the other teens - in the 60’s - played rock.
Thanks for posting!
The Dillards performed at an assembly at my high school in 1968.

Who could forget The Darlings?
1963. Yeah, I was 17. Don’t know whether to smile or cry.
Andy was great about popularizing bluegrass to urban America in the early 60's.
Check out ‘The Grascal sometime. They’re a bluegrass band who play a lot of the old classics. They’re big fans of the Andy Griffith Show.
Here’s a live performance of ‘Dooley’ => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3ETo_ZWGUA
Funny how this song's lyrics mean a lot more some fifty years later. It's tough to believe that people so young could've written the lyrics to begin with. Definitely a gift.
“That’n always makes me cry. “
