A 31-year-old man died after he reportedly ignored warnings about swimming after getting a new tattoo and contracted a flesh-eating bacteria infection in the Gulf of Mexico. The unidentified man, whose case was detailed in the British Medical Journal, had gotten a tattoo on his right calf five days prior to swimming, Metro reported.

The man had chosen a crucifix and pair of praying hands for his latest ink, and began suffering from fever, chills and a rash close to the tattoo after swimming, the news outlet reported. He reportedly developed sepsis in his right calf, which had turned purple by the time he was admitted to the hospital.

The organism was Vibrio vulnificus which is related to but not Vibrio Cholera. At least 10 other people in the area have been infected with it and it is a nasty infection.

This twit was ignorant in not following the instructions given for a new tattoo which indicate you don’t swim for a period of about a week, or more. Same instructions I got years ago when I got my tattoo and the same as I got when I recovered from surgery.

Tats are hardly a fad, having been around for millennia.

For those of you calling people with tats stupid, degenerate, alcoholics, etc. you might want to apologize to the many military members enlisted and officer, retirees, veterans, ministers, doctors, and other conservatives who have one or more tats. You also might apologize to my wife who is a veteran, college educated, retired grandmother and has a tat memorializing her sister. I’m a former enlisted Marine and retired officer, hold a master’s degree, and now teach college courses full time and I have a tattoo with my name, my wife’s name, a heart and 1972 for the year wrapped around a Marine Corps emblem. Since that is the year we were married and we were both Marines when we married it seemed very appropriate.

It always amazes me how easy it is (like leftists degrading conservatives) for conservatives to speak ill of those who have tats. He had the cross and folded hands for a reason, could be his beliefs and faith but none of you know that.

He didn’t follow instructions and his death is unfortunate. You might have better exhibited your faith and charity by offering a prayer for him rather than some of the comments I found here.

My grandmother and mother always told me not to speak ill of the dead because it does not exhibit anything in the way of Christian charity. Maybe some of you need to keep your personal dislikes and prejudices to yourselves in public venues.

Lol... that girl reminds me of my little sister who opened up a small bottle of red Testors model paint back in the 1960’s. She got it all over here face where it seemed to remain for weeks.

Tattoos and piercings all remind me of images of savages in the South Pacific or Africa before civilization.

When I think of all the people who have died of sepsis all I can think is “If they had just asked Mat_Helm what to do!”

Just passing on the British doctors discovery that was written into a medical journal I happened to read. The internet can be both profoundly bad for spreading false information and sinful material, and yet profoundly good at spreading good information as well quickly and broadly. A two edged sword. But Mat_Helm is just another pond in the game of life!

So far I think (even though successful) intravenous vitamin C is not FDA approved protocol. Of course not, they are the FDA

The FDA doesn't approve anything that actually works and is cheap. No money for big pharma in it.

They'll only approve stuff that'll kill you that's made by Merck.

I almost wonder if the infection was from the swimming.

It COULD have been from the tattoo parlor, no?

tattoos used to be a sign of manliness....as in, my WW2 vet father, who proudly had his arm tattoed with an anchor, from being in the Navy....

real men had tattoos on their arms...

nowadays, the tattoos hold no significant importance, except to make ones body a bit uglier.....

While the Gulf is usually “safe” to swim in around the Biloxi area, the long standing phrase is, “You can tell the tourists; they’re the ones in the water”.

Among pagans, see posts 9 & 22.

No apologies.

A bit late on this one are we?

The only thing you’ve got is some bible verses or commentary and you try to relate any of us who have tattoos to Manson?

What a douche.

Thank you for confirming my (low) expectations.

Because after all, tattoos are how the lower classes identify themselves to the rest of us.

Much like ad hominem attacks.
