Videos featuring a small factory in China producing fake beer are now making the rounds on Chinese social media and its grossing everybody out.
The clips, which are earning collective expressions of disgust among netizens, showed counterfeit beer being siphoned into used Budweiser cans in a process that has a complete disregard for hygiene and care for consumers.
Shanghaiist published the videos edited in one footage, showing factory workers using their bare hands while dunking used beer cans into a tub to fill them up with beer-like liquid. Once filled, the cans are sent down a conveyor belt to get sealed by an automated machine.
The counterfeit products are said to be distributed to bars and nightclubs.
When the videos emerged online, netizens were quick to poke fun at them. Here are some comments compiled and translated by Mashable:
Some ice-cold Budweiser should help you stop worrying [about counterfeits], said one Weibo user.
Dammit! Ive drunk so many cans of Budweiser! lamented one.
No wonder when I drank beer for the first time at a karaoke lounge, I didnt feel a thing, pointed out another.
The factory, located in Dongguan in Guangzhou Province, reportedly produces 600,000 cartons of fake beer per month. Thankfully, the disgusting facility was recently raided by local police and has now been shut down.
Mashable reports that there have been a couple of fake Budweiser production center busts before in China. Just last year, a raid on a fake Budweiser factory in Guangzhou, China yielded thousands of fake beer cans.
Budweiser, which stated that it has not franchised its operations to a third party, had already filed complaints and is now seeking legal action.
FAKE BUDWEISER BEER IN CHINA VIDEO
Budweiser responds to news of underground counterfeit operation in China
How is this different from how it’s normally made?
Ha! Good one.
I didn't see the horses filling the cans
I was wondering the same thing. If you’re going through all these mechanical steps to produce ‘fake’ beer, why not produce an actual beer? The recipe is very basic, not that expensive. In many ways, China takes corruption to the level of a fine art.
I pee better beer than Budweiser!
Yeah...I mean...China is where most of the rice is. Wouldn't that cut out a lot of the middle men when making Buttwidener?
Forget the video; I always cringe when I read “beer” and “Budweiser” in the same sentence.
The article is not clear. Are they licensed to make Bud, or are they making fake-fake beer?
Back in the 80s, I drank a whole lot worse.
No Slurm queen.
I agree, it is interesting to observe a capitalist like economy with no rules. (Just don’t get caught.)
And US consumers won’t have to take a hit in the wallet as much.
I visited China in 2002 and saw way more love of Capitalism than ever I thought possible.
It was actually the most surprising part of the trip.
Everyone seemed to have a side gig.

My first trip to Frankfurt when I was in the Army was a time I will never forget. I tried every German beer that I could. The perplexing thing was that Budweiser was the most popular to GERMANS who were with us. The oddity occurred later at Irish bars in the states. It makes no sense.
And you thought you were buying clean water . . .
Apparently there is a Czech Budweiser that is quite good. It’s not the same company at all.
