A Denver sportswriter is out of his job after triggering an onslaught of criticism for tweeting that a Japanese driver winning Sunday's Indianapolis 500 made him "uncomfortable."
Terry Frei, a sports reporter for the Denver Post, sent the questionable tweet shortly after Japanese race car driver Takuma Sato hailed victory in the illustrious Indy 500.
"Nothing specifically personal, but I am very uncomfortable with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend," he wrote.

The sportswriter’s name is either German or Italian.
There is a name for people who see others not as individuals, but as members of a group. They're called liberals.
First Indy-car race I watched in decades, and I could help but be impressed by what a class-act the winner was. And it was really gratifying to see how his pit crew (who to all appearances were standard blue-collar NASCAR types) expressed their affection for the guy.
He reminded me of Ichiro - his talent and respect for his sport only enrich it.
“Oh really? How many have you actually met?”
I’ve met _every single one of them_.
next question.
“There is a name for people who see others not as individuals, but as members of a group. They’re called liberals.”
Hah ! I see what you did there !
“Why was he not uncomfortable with 13 of the last 15 Indy 500s being won by cars with Honda or Toyota engines?”
12 out of 15 Honda ! 2 Chevy and one Toyota .
Oh Nooooze! Asian drvers!!!
Bawhaw!!!
But then, how many German and Italian F1 drivers have competed there? No raised eyebrows for them, that I can recall. It was a well-driven race, won by a deserving competitor.
Have a good day!
Not Italian. German, Swiss or Austrian. (OK, maybeeee Lichtensteinese). Absent facts, I’m guessing Swiss.
He looks awfully young to have had a father flying in World War II.
The left gets a scalp.
Yippee, right?
Detroit is slacking. Japanese are way ahead having been developing high rev, high reliability, engine technology in their motorcycle development for much longer.
Especially Honda.
This is an assumption on my part.
I shall, thank you for the kind sentiment...........
next question.
Name them...if you can't then you're a liar.
Plenty Italians have raced in the 500, but none have won since before the US was in WW1. Not many German drivers, and no winners.
Driving and winning are quite different. Who noticed Hiro Matsushita? Sato has driven in several 500s without much notice.
Which is why you introduce yourself Hajimemashite ... Watashi wa ... etc etc ... albeit I've never said Yoroshiku onegaishimasu; I'd rather be known as a rude American.
If they even remotely suspect you know conversational, conversation between themselves over and time for formalities.
Had an IndyCar account in the mid-oughts and enjoyed the hell out of it.
No, it's not, and that's sad but inevitable. After 1973, authorities finally had to accept that cars were simply going too fast for the track. Most of the major rules changes since then have been to limit speed. Then there was the financial problem, which by the end had left only two or three teams financially competitive. The solution to that was standardization. The race is definitely inferior to the old days, as it's become basically an open cockpit NASCAR.
Retard...
If the Germans hadn’t bombed Pearl Harbor, we could have focused on defeating Japan and this would have never happened...
Exactly. Nixon did what he did to flip the middle finger to the USSR. I had no problem with it at the time.
