A Denver sportswriter is out of his job after triggering an onslaught of criticism for tweeting that a Japanese driver winning Sunday's Indianapolis 500 made him "uncomfortable."
Terry Frei, a sports reporter for the Denver Post, sent the questionable tweet shortly after Japanese race car driver Takuma Sato hailed victory in the illustrious Indy 500.
"Nothing specifically personal, but I am very uncomfortable with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend," he wrote.

Hiroshima & Nagasaki evened up the score in the end and BTW they did apologize
My animus is spread equally throughout the world, except for Muslims.
Yea, just like your Mom & Dad forcing you to apologize for hitting your little brother. “Tell him you’re sorry!”
“How do we not know that the sports writers family may have been taken out by some Japanese soldier in WWII?”
Being that the sportswriter has a German last name, how do we know that members of his family did not Americans during WWII?
Do you feel uncomfortable with German sportswriters commenting on American sports on Memorial Day?
Taking a deep breath here........Whoa, that comment ranks at the top of the most ignorant comments I have ever read here on FreeRepublic.com.......
What the hell is wrong with you?
“Do you feel uncomfortable with German sportswriters commenting on American sports on Memorial Day?”
Hell no! All the rest of the world seems to want to tell us what to do. Why exclude the Germans?
And of course our US government can’t stop telling everyone else what to do.
Apparently you are trying to find “ignorant comments” today. You need to look elsewhere.
So you are uncomfortable with Japanese winning the Indy 500 but not uncomfortable with Germans writing about the Indy 500?
“This “Jap” had nothing to do with WWII. By all accounts, he is a nice guy. “
Amen.
And don’t forget the MIS.

I had the opportunity to meet some of these gents a few years ago at a Memorial day event. they served in a war zone where they looked like the enemy. But, they saved a lot of American lives with their linguistic skills
I didn’t say that at all. I’m glad the guy won. I think that just because some guy tweeted that “he” was uncomfortable, then the rest of the world wants this guy’s head.
Why are you so into taking this guy down? You want to start using the political correctness card, then don’t come whining when it gets used against you.
All of this BS about everyone being offended has to stop somewhere. It seems that many conservatives are getting “offended” and want somebodies head.
You’re the one that posted this because you are offended. Do you feel better now? Or did you want everyone else to get in on your pissing match?
And lest ye forget, the General who spearheaded the Allies to victory against the Nazis, was a German, himself, Eisenhower.
“Why are you so into taking this guy down?”
I did not fire him.
“Do you feel better now? Or did you want everyone else to get in on your pissing match?”
I thought it was an interesting story but was not offended by the sportswriter’s comments.
However, I have no problem with people being fired for their own stupidity.
What did he think back in the day when an EYE-talian won it. After all, the EYE-talians and the Nips were on the same side 75 years ago.
“However, I have no problem with people being fired for their own stupidity.”
Me neither. I don’t think what the guy said was stupid other than he should know what’s allowable while working for a large corporation. Having said that, I work for a large corporation of about 50,000 employees, so practically anything I say can get me fired.
Actually I don't, you've provided a bucket full today...........
I don't need to say anything more about that since you've provided all the evidence.
