Me too, and because the studio had made the decision that the Captain of this series had to be a female. The original woman (Geneviève Bujold) they wanted to play the role canceled, and so they got Kate Mulgrew to do it.
Then as if one politically correct statement wasn't enough, we had to have a black Vulcan as her Chief of Security, because we needed two times the political correctness, you know.
To be fair, I was very pleased and impressed with Tim Russ's portrayal of Tuvok. He captured Spock's manner perfectly. He ended up being the best character of that series. (The Doctor was second best.)
Then there was the oh-so politically correct first officer Chakotay.
Politically correct brownie point number 3. Yes, we had to have an American Indian first officer to round out this Voyage of politically correct propaganda masquerading as entertainment.
I liked the character of Chakotay, but I resented that they insisted making such a spectacle shoving this "diversity" in our faces.
The concept was good and could have been a rousing adventure with the right cast and a captain in the mold of Kirk who would bend and stretch the Prime Directive as far as needed to get home. Instead we got an SJWs vision of the future captained by a Federation bureaucrat for whom getting home would be a lucky happenstance.
Yes. Even though I ended up liking some of the episodes and some of the characters (I never liked Janeway from the beginning to the end) I didn't like being preached at.
I would have been happier if they had kept Chakotay and Tuvok and ditched Janeway.
I rooted for the Borg the few times I watched that series!
I like Picardo, the best doctor of all. I also enjoy the super hot 7-of-9 (Ryan) and strong character routinely seeking optimum efficiency and because of which she verbally “backhands” people left and right. Funny.
I’m sick of Chakotay and his indian crap.
Thanks for reminding me about the black security chief as a PC token. And you are right he did a decent job, just it was too many obviously PC casting picks thrown together.
I couldn’t stand Chakotay in part because I couldn’t accept how he could go from ex-federation rebel to carrying out Janeway’s stupid orders. He and Tuvok should have mutinied in the pilot- now that would have kicked off an interesting show.
>>I would have been happier if they had kept Chakotay and Tuvok and ditched Janeway<<
Don’t be surprised if in ST:Rumprangers Chakote and Tuvok are lovers and the captain is RuPaul.
And since their demo is 18-23 YO males, it will quickly die and the producers and the msms will blame white male sexists and LUYTRGEWYWUW haters.
Correction: that's "African-American Vulcan!"
I read somewhere that Geneviève Bujold was ‘released’ because she just couldn’t handle the ‘technobabble’ in the script.
