Glenn Greenwald, a lefty, sees quite clearly the corner the Democrats have painted themselves into. Writing at The Intercept, he cites the knowledgeable Dems quietly warning the Dems to back away.
But on Wednesday night, Morell appeared at an intelligence community forum to “cast doubt” on “allegations that members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.” “On the question of the Trump campaign conspiring with the Russians here, there is smoke, but there is no fire at all,” he said, adding, “There’s no little campfire, there’s no little candle, there’s no spark. And there’s a lot of people looking for it.” (snip)
Perhaps most revealing of all are the Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee — charged with investigating these matters — who recently told BuzzFeed how petrified they are of what the Democratic base will do if they do not find evidence of collusion, as they now suspect will likely be the case. “There’s a tangible frustration over what one official called ‘wildly inflated’ expectations surrounding the panel’s fledgling investigation,” BuzzFeed’s Ali Watkins wrote.
Those “wildly inflated” expectations are a real and present danger to the Democrat leadership, who could well find themselves blamed as sellouts or worse.
“…several [Senate Intelligence] committee sources grudgingly say, it feels as though the investigation will be seen as a sham if the Senate doesn’t find a silver bullet connecting Trump and Russian intelligence operatives.” One member told Watkins: “I don’t think the conclusions are going to meet people’s expectations.”

If I were to think of something that would explain the FBI and explain Trumps weird actions, I would come up with this theory of which I have no evidence but it does make everything make sense.
If Jared, who ran the Austin campaign group, were to have worked with some guys who happened to be employed by Russia. Then a lot of things make sense. Jared’s group worked the internet. He was the one who jumped on every internet poll. He reacted quickly to any anti trump press on the internet. He repeated Trump’s message on every blog.
Lets say that somewhere along the way he was helped. Or that he inadvertently communicated with the Russians even without knowing it. And sometime afterwards, even very recently, Trump finds out the FBI is going after his favorite Son-in-law and therefore his daughter. Now he assumes Jared is being unfairly sucked into a fight between him and democrats. He asks, then he demands, but the FBI won’t stop the process. It keeps going on. And he hears rumors or leaks get out with half truths. And Comey won’t bring it to a conclusion nor can he stop the leaks. So Trump fires him. And then the FBI team starts to rain leaks on The New York Times and Washington Post causing Trump to explode. He has no patience, so he does one stupid thing after another and can’t stop himself.
Anyway, that is the theory I am going with until some new facts come out which cause me to dream up something else.
If they want smoke AND fire, investigate H. Clinton’s connections with the Russians!

The Democrats now find themselves in the position of Victor Frankenstein, who created a monster that he could not control. He lamented: “I live in daily fear, lest the monster whom I had created should perpetrate some new wickedness.” But of course, he maintained basic morality, which led to fears of wickedness being perpetrated. For the Dems, the sole consideration is the damage the monster they created — which looks more like the peasants with pitchforks and torches storming the castle than it does like the monster himself – turning on them.
I think the DemoRats are back-pedaling because Mueller can include lots of things in his investigation - like why the DNC would not allow the FBI to review their computers and what the connection is to all the “leakers” being murdered? Like the old saying ‘Be careful what you wish for”.

The appearance of smoke was created, purposely, by the usual suspects in order to allow the msm to hold its witch hunt and play judge, jury and executioner in the court of public opinion.
The idiots were too stupid to realize there’s been a serious sea change and the msm no longer has the veneer of moral authority nor credibility necessary to play that game.

You are wrong. Just look at what has happened. Trump now has a special investigator. He can sit there investigating until the cows come home. They are now floating Joe Lieberman as the Director of the FBI, a democrat. Or at least half a democrat. Trump is worse off. Its not Genius, its stupidity.
Trump is now fighting for his presidency. He was on a roll before he fired Comey. And what could Comey do to hurt him. Nothing. It was a dumb move. Sessions is in charge of justice. The FBI does whatever it wants. But it cant bring a case to court. Trump now has a real possibility of that.
If Trump stops watching TV, stops giving interviews, stops tweeting about the media and just does what he campaigned on, he will succeed. So far he has made the ratings for MSNBC soar. He has made the subscriptions to The New York Times sky rocket. Trump just needs to do what he said he would do and everyone will be happy. But if he keeps with his thin skinned ways, he will be a lame duck president before his first 6 months is over.
