'Star Trek: Discovery': Decoding the 1st Trailer of Trek's New Chapter
The first full trailer for "Star Trek: Discovery" hints at a complicated past for one of its main characters, while bringing in famous alien species such as the Vulcans and the Klingons.
"Discovery" is set about 10 years before the original "Star Trek" series that featured Capt. James T. Kirk, Science Officer Spock and other memorable characters.
As such, the trailer focuses heavily on Spock's father, Sarek (played by James Frain). You can see more series here from our sister site Newsarama. But let's take a close look at our first glimpse of Trek's new chapter to see what's in store fans in the final frontier. -SNIP-

Well, it is clearly called out that "this Star Trek show has a GAY SCIENCE OFFICER." If the study of regular homosexuality has become a separate science by itself, it must belong to a larger group of science that "describes gender....."
That larger group is probably called Settled Science.
People tune in to sci fi to see the aliens, adventure and new planets/ships. Nobody gives a sh&@ about the gays and empowered womyn. We get enough of that here on present Earth. This will flop bigly. I’m not going to watch a single episode. I don’t want to be preached at by blm and queers. I’ll just turn on cnn for that
It will fall into the unwatchable category!
The fan produced episodes of the original series will remain more creative ScFi and faithful to the canon!
Yeah...lets all stand around and get in touch with our feelings.....
Those uniforms (Star Trek: Discovery, not “The Orville”) look like they stole ‘em from Babylon 5.
Suddenly those tales of UFOs abducting people for anal probes make a lot more sense.
Yawner. 1 season. 2 tops.
“This was the first of many illegal unmaskings that resulted in Obamas political opponents being destroyed.”
I’ve always considered the Democrat “unmasking” via the DNC/Podesta/Hillary email leaks to be a case of “turnabout is fair play.”

A labor of love by a very talented group, including Scotty’s son, Chris Doohan.
Very TOS’ish. You can watch full episodes at the link.
“This fan production is not endorsed by, sponsored by, nor affiliated with CBS, Paramount Pictures, or any other Star Trek franchise, and is a non-commercial fan-made film series intended for recreational use.”
Past visionaries once envisioned it as the sport of the future.
This is going to be on CBS All Access. IOW, you’re going to have to pay to watch it. $5.99 per month for limited commercials, $9.99 per month commercial free. No thanks.
Another girl captain (yawn) AND a gay first officer? Ugh. To borrow a phrase from a different franchise...I’ve got a BAD feeling about this.
Regards,
I can't agree. The best thing about "Enterprise" was the success in depicting "retro" future technology. Acting and story-line....MEH. Way too many departures from the canon established in TOS.
And Scott Bakula always seemed to be "calling it in" (as he has pretty much done with every series he has played in). The one exception to that is his current casting in NCIS:New Orleans. He has finally lost his baby fat, and is actually investing some real intensity into his role.
I’m also a fan of Enterprise and a movie is a great idea.
We have Amazon Prime so I’ve been able to go back and watch/rewatch all the episodes of TOS, NG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. I didn’t like DS9 and Voyager when they originally aired, but they grew on me. Enterprise was aired at a bad time for me and I was seldom able to catch it on broadcast, but I enjoyed it when I was able to see it, and the second and third time around were just as good (at least for me).
IMHO, the most exciting thing about the future of Trek was Axanar prior to the lawsuit. I thought the Prelude showed some great potential and it looked like the feature might have a great story to tell. Still looking forward to whatever gets produced, but with the lawsuit limitations, I don’t think it’s going to be as good, sadly. I was more excited about Axanar than I am about anything Paramount’s produced lately or the new series.
I’m hoping the new Paramount series is at least watchable, but I’m not optimistic. I don’t think Paramount “gets” Star Trek and their attempt to ham-handedly monetize it is going to suck bigly. Much like the Abrams movies but with even more suck. I hope I’m wrong.
I think she might have heavily exaggerated things during the divorce. When it all came out she sounded like she was horrified it went public (reasonable I guess) but then tried to make up for it by saying what a great guy he is, how he'd make a great Senator, great dad, good friend, etc. But who knows? All we know is that Obama is very comfortable getting records that he's legally forbidden to see and finding ways to get them into the press. He's done it multiple times in his career.
B5 is still superior to new incarnations Trek.
DS9 was the best of new generation Trek shows.
Westerns set in space are a genre that has been beat to death. Political Correctness will kill this series in its crib. It’s dead, Jim!
