What does anybody make of this? (Vanity)
Me

Posted on 05/20/2017 12:38:06 AM PDT by MacMattico

This afternoon I logged on to my daughter's college account and found out grades had come out. I was very excited to see that she had received a 3.75 and was very happy for her. I showed her and the entire family and we went out to celebrate (dinner). I shared my happiness via Facebook. Tonight I went back on to pay a fee that I had noticed earlier was yet unpaid and her grades are completely different! She has one A, a B, two C's and a D! I don't have any clue how this is possible. One of her classes-- which is now a B-- she was given an award for best academic paper and that was her final grade. All other tests in that class were A's. What's going on? I can't contact the school until Monday, do you think it's hacking? I know this probably sounds like a joke but it's not.

Wow! That is exactly our story!

Except July will be our thirtieth anniversary, my mother in law (FIL passed years ago) and I love each other to death, and we all have lived less than three miles from each other since 2002. My wife had her degree before she was 23. She now runs two businesses from home while raising our daughter, while I am about to celebrate 35 years of service with my employer.

Be very careful not to let your greater experience blind you to what might just be a legitimate “unicorn.”

I have often quipped that God made children to grow up to PROVE to parents they’re not right by definition.

I’m guessing for your daughter and probably many others who paid tuition, studied, worked hard and earned high grades; those grades where reduced after the fair and balanced application of White Privileged.

From those that have to those who have not.

Now that grades are online, there is no more posting of grades outside the office. There are online programs, like Degreeworks, which keep track of all grades, requirements, met requirements, etc. Your daughter should be able to access her records and, probably at the top, show you her average. The recent grades may be scattered through the categories according to what requirement was met.

Too long an explanation. You will probably need your daughter’s help and password to get onto such a program.

Typically, schools will not release grades even to parents that pay the bills. Who knows what the hell is going on in “higher” indoctrination, er education.

Stay out of it. Let her deal with it. She’s a big girl now.

I would say that depends on who is paying. My parents are both of rather powerful personality and I remember that they were somewhat "excited" when I first denied them access to my grades and whatnot when I was college. I was paying my own tuition and expenses so to me, it weren't nobody's but mine.

Had they been paying for it though, they would have been fully entitled to check in on how their investment was going.

There was nothing we could do. I’ve never seen her again.

How long ago was that? How old would she be now? No way (googling?) to contact her?

Regards,

I agree, it does depend on who is paying. But I would never have gone into my kids college accounts to investigate their grades. I would have asked them how it was going and what were their grades. I trusted them and as best I know they never lied to me.

The part of the story that I was referring to was the part where the parent was going to call the University. Leave that up to the daughter. When she (the daughter) gets it worked out, then discuss the results for good or bad.

Parents need to start letting go. When my daughter was a senior in high school, she came home with a note from a teacher, demanding a signature from the parents saying that we were aware of my daughters assignments and we would insure that they got done. I told my daughter, “I’m not signing that.” She pleaded, “Dad, you have to I’ll be in trouble if you don’t.” I told her, “You are about to go to college. Either you are going to do your assignments or not. I give you permission to sign my name on anything that teacher gives you.” She was stunned but left the room two feet taller than when she came in.

(She is now 30, a millionaire and a nice person.)
