Catching catfish when living in Texas was always a passion of mine as you can see from my profile page. We retired in Alabama 2 years ago but last year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and I never got to fish during recovery. Cancer is all in the past so this year we are back chasing cats. Brought this 40 pounder in this morning but still looking for old grandad, he's out there somewhere.

Keep up the good work. Good to have a passion..........
Great catch!
There is nothing in the world better than a good tug on the end of your line.
I’ll teach you a trick. Go get a beef liver from a butcher shop. Sometimes the livers are not good so they toss them. Then go get a gallon paint straining bag, 3 # 10 trebles. I make my own steel leaders with materials from Bass Pro. Place hooks in the liver with one barb on the outside. Place liver in bag and munch it into a ball. So now you have a basketball shaped, sized bait. Drop in a 5 gallon bucket to ripen. Use accordingly. The smaller cat will hit it but only a large one can mouth it.
Good Luck
Which lake in Alabama are you fishing on?
I use live bait, flatheads don’t usually bite dead bait but they all like live bait. I use black saltys or goldfish about 3 inches long.
I fish a tributary off the Tennessee river called crow Creek but it is also upriver from Lake Guntersville.
Okay. Got a place on Neely Henry and was going to ask you to stop by. You must be near Huntsville a little north of us.
Wow.
That is way bigger than any fish I’ve ever caught.
What did you use for bait.....depth charges?
I’m glad to hear that you are also doing good medically.
I found old grandad.
Stevenson Alabama, like mayberry or hazard county.
I use live bait, black saltys about 3 inches long, kin to goldfish, don’t catch many small ones, 4-5 pounds is about the smallest.
God’s country. Not a bad place to be.
Welcome to Alabama. Don’t tell anybody what a great place it really is.
Funny thing, I had never ever dreamed I would have ever live in Alabama after living in Texas for over 30 years but after my late wife died I remarried and she has 2 daughters that live in Scottsboro. So we came out here and I fell in love with the place.
Hey, didn’t Marvin Gaye get two shots of that?
Especially NE Alabama.
No, that would be just plain Dad. -(
