Guy finds an old pistol in his basement, posts it on Reddit to find out what it is. Turns out to be a rare Hamada Type 2 from WW2 worth about $30,000.
Fires sideways
Note to Guns and Ammo, how about doing a cool story on this and it’s provenance? Do that instead of another high end gun review that I can’t afford....
Could be wrong, but...I think that’s the pistol famous for being the very most unsafe in the world.
Something about...if you hit the slide release it goes off every time, even with zero pressure on the trigger.
I’m guessing that’s a war trophy a relative of this guy brought back, 70+ years ago.
What is that on the bottom of the pistol grip?
The magazine baseplate
Looks like a sharp nail that would poke you anytime you picked up the pistol.
“What is that on the bottom of the pistol grip?”
Lanyard?
At the very bottom is the bottom of the magazine.
Just don’t try to shoot it.
Thank you!!
Correct..!
I was mistaken, good memory..!
Ian McCollum of the Forgotten Weapons Youtube channel has a video on this pistol model.
As usual he describes the history/development, design, mechanism, and he field strips it.
Search on Youtube for Forgotten Weapons Hamada.
Forgotten Weapons is addictive.

They’re basing their $31,000 estimate on one that sold at auction from Rock Island Arsenal auction for $31,625.00 some time ago with serial # 33. This one is #41. But Rock Island charges a 25% Auction Premium. I know because I bought two antique guns from them last month. Add around $7,500 to that estimate of value.
Magazine release? European style.
Here ya go
You’re thinking of the Nambu 94 ; )
This looks as ugly as everything else Japanese I have seen from WW II. They should have paid Walther and Mauser license fees to produce weapons both functional and elegant.
