'Gray death' is the latest opioid street mix causing worry
timesfreepress.com ^

Investigators who nicknamed the street mixture have detected it or recorded overdoses blamed on it in Alabama, Georgia and Ohio. The drug looks like concrete mix and varies in consistency from a hard, chunky material to a fine powder.

The substance is a combination of several opioids blamed for thousands of fatal overdoses nationally, including heroin, fentanyl, carfentanil — sometimes used to tranquilize large animals like elephants — and a synthetic opioid called U-47700.

...

Last year, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration listed U-47700 in the category of the most dangerous drugs it regulates, saying it was associated with dozens of fatalities, mostly in New York and North Carolina. Some of the pills taken from Prince's estate after the musician's overdose death last year contained U-47700.

Gray death has a much higher potency than heroin, according to a bulletin issued by the Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. Users inject, swallow, smoke or snort it.

Georgia's investigation bureau has received 50 overdose cases in the past three months involving gray death, most from the Atlanta area, said spokeswoman Nelly Miles.

...

In Ohio, the coroner's office serving the Cincinnati area says a similar compound has been coming in for months. The Ohio attorney general's office has analyzed eight samples matching the gray death mixture from around the state.

Just thinning out the weak and stupid from the herd. No sympathy from me for drug abusers.

“the cost to all of us as a society”

This is precisely the problem. The drug addicts should NOT “cost” to “all of us” as a “society”. That kind of socialist mentality is the root of the problem.

Take care of your own damn PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY problem. Don’t cost the rest of us with your “pre existing” condition. I’m sure drug addiction is a “condition”. ugh, no wonder it is difficult to just get rid of Obamacare.

How brilliant.
Truly you are a genius.
Substance abusers don’t seem stronger highs all by themselves, somebody else has to make them do that.
If only people could understand the problem like you do all this would stop.

Any lack of personal responsibility is at the core

There has been sympathy because so many of these people who are hopeless drug addicts got started with prescription pain-killers and mind altering substances. Awhile ago, it was thought around here that Narcan would be the solution. Overall, it has made the problem worse. The combination of sympathy, the availability of a "save" making people more bold about use, and so many freebies for people who can't function have just made things worse.

The more you do for people, the less they do for themselves. Gosh, I hate the deaths. But you know what? First, charge doctors who get people hooked on pain killers and mind-altering meds with negligent homicide. In addition to that, apply "tough love". We'll help people who help themselves.

I thought it sounded familiar. I just fired that game up last weekend, too.

Sounds like U-47700 is a prime candidate for use in death by lethal injection.

So is morphine and heroin.

make them do that.

Rather than address what I actually posted, you've propped up a straw man to beat. Have fun with that.

The cost that I am speaking of is not in dollars. It is in the waste of otherwise productive lives and the loss of talented individuals. Yes I am a strong proponent of personal responsibility but I can sympathize with and for the families and communities torn apart. I hope you never experience the pain of an addicted loved one. I hope you never lie awake at night waiting for a call from the police or the morgue. But some of us have and the answers aren’t as easy as you think.

Good afternoon.

I have an idea. Do not inject, inhale, smoke or eat any drug not proscribed by your physician.

That should cut down the number of deaths.

Excellent advice - and certainly includes the drugs alcohol and tobacco.

Agreed. One of my sisters made a terrible choice when faced with (returning to?) rehab. I have no doubt that it will haunt us all forever.

Her husband and children were so ashamed that they never let us know what was happening. I suspect that this is more common than many people realize.

You would have a different t opinion if someone you love has a drug addiction. I wish for drug addicts to get sober, not death.

Hi.

Agreed.

My physician recommends two glasses of red wine a day. I’m working on her about one cigar a day...

” I wish for drug addicts to get sober, not death.”

That is the root of the problem. You actually wish for others to be taxed to death so that the wealth can be transferred to the drug addicts. They will not get magically sober; it requires financial and mental PERSONAL commitment. Just don’t ask for the taxpayers to foot the bill.
