The number of active tuberculosis (TB) cases diagnosed in Minnesota increased 12 percent in 2016 to 168, up from 150 one year earlier, according to the Minnesota Department of Healths (MDH) Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Programs Quarterly Surveillance Report, October 1, 2016 December 31, 2016. Ninety percent of these 168 cases (152 of 168) were foreign-born, significantly higher than the national 2016 average of 67.9 percent of active TB cases that were foreign-born.
Fourteen of these 168 cases, or 9 percent were diagnosed within the first year in the United States of the 2,635 refugees who were resettled in Minnesota in FY 2016. The majority of these refugees came from two high TB burden countries: 1,195 came from Somalia, and 653 came from Burma, according to the State Departments interactive website.
Eleven of these 14 cases of active TB in refugees were actually diagnosed in pre-immigration exams overseas before their arrival in Minnesota a remarkable situation that would have either violated U.S. law or required the granting of a waiver by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office within the Department of Homeland Security, since active TB is a Class A health risk which is prohibited entry to the U.S. without such a waiver.

TB now returning in Minnesota from Somalians and in Miami , primarily from Haitians. Does anyone see a similarity in these outbreaks ?
Courtesy of Obama.
Racist germs, of course!
Minnesota, land of Franken. You reap what you sew. This liberal bastion of a state, and I feel sorry for the good people of Minnesota, pretty much everyone who doesn’t live in Minnapolis/St.Paul. But...They are bringing in these sub saharan peoples by the boatload...and can anyone tell me why.
We crossed into an alternate universe, sometime during the Nixon administration.
Remarkably, the Minnesota Twins suck worse than Somalians.
That’s what they get for welcoming (no doubt for devious reasons) these immigrants and illegals.
You better not think you’re going to bring that banana into this country but bring all your tb and other diseases in the front door.
I personally know someone who got this terrible disease from working in motels remodeling the rooms. His job was to clean them out and demo as necessary. This means you can get it by staying in the same motel/hotel room as someone who had the disease before you.
I even had to get the test twice two months apart to make sure I was exposed. Apparently someone who has TB can cough and the germs will stay in the air and viable for up to 3 hours.
Your tax dollars at work. Letting sick Muslims into this country so millions of our tax dollars can drain money for the rest of their lives. We are a lot stupider than our forefathers at Ellis Island were when they sent sick immigrants back to their home countries.
Is it official government policy to import tuberculosis?
This is appalling, I wonder what else was let in?
A waiver for TB?
” You come from a violent backward nation and live as if it is still 700ad. You are illiterate. You have diseases that have been wiped out in this country. Welcome to America. Here is your waiver, welfare checks, ebt, food stamps, and democrat voter registration.”

Thanks for the info.
Active TB increase in Minnesota rose 12% in 2016, alone
Of all 168 cases under treatment, 90% are foreign born.
Eleven of these 14 cases of active TB in refugees were actually diagnosed in pre-immigration exams overseas before their arrival in Minnesota
which makes you question the level of vetting conducted by either the United Nations , or the U.S. State Department
The highest incidence of immigrant active TB cases in the U.S. come from Somalia and Burma.
Interesting news source article and posting/comments

No, they’ll infect anyone regardless of race or national origin.
It is not at all unusual, now, to encounter refugees with active tuberculosis.
When I started in this game, a long time ago, you needed a normal chest Xray and a medical clearance to get on the plane over in Africa. Then, slowly, the standards for “normal” on the film started to slide.
The medical exam turned into a checklist. The folders they had to have around their necks in a plastic envelope got thinner, and then disappeared. “It all goes to Atlanta electronically”.
Now, sometimes, they get off the plane into an ambulance and right to the ER, sick and speaking a language no one knows. Fortunately, federal regulations require hospitals to provide services in 73 languages, by qualified interpreters, at no cost to the refugee, the sponsoring organization, or the government.
