A spokesman with the Federal Bureau of Prisons has confirmed the death of evangelist Tony Alamo. He was 82.
Alamo, who operated ministries in Arkansas decades ago, had been imprisoned under his real name of Bernie Hoffman at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Butner in North Carolina.
Hoffman died on Tuesday, the spokesman said. He had been sent to prison in 2009 after a conviction of transporting minors across state lines for sexual purposes.

At 82 and having been in prison for 7 years, I’d say natural causes.
Hmmm; now that you mention it, I remember something about the Alamo as well. Seems like a long time ago, though.

Back in the day, he was also a notorious anti-Catholic, along the lines of some of the late Jack Chick’s material. Jack meant well and had a lot of legit stuff too, but Alamo was pure shyster.
I was visiting someone in the federal lockup in Memphis and in walks Tony Alamo himself. He was surrounded some of his sheeple. As a bonus, I saw Auburn Calloway, the one who tried to hijack FedEx flight 705. Only in a prison can you see such luminaries.
I remember seeing their show on TV from California. Thought they were weird.
Then when I moved to Oklahoma and Arkansas guess who showed up, like a bad penny!
When Susan died Tony kept her unburied, believing he could resurrect her. He failed, so she was entombed. When his “empire” came down around him, her tomb was broken into and her body missing. Wonder if it has ever been found.
We ate at their restaurant on I-40 at Alma forty years ago. High priced and poor quality food. Only reason we ate there is the KFC across the street was not open yet, so my MIL demanded we EAT, NOW! She was driving so we left the closed KFC and she pulled into the Alamo restaurant.

Strange fella, a staple here in Nashville back in the ‘70s/early ‘80s. Prayers for his soul.
