President Trump made further comments about Andrew Jackson on Monday evening, saying the seventh president saw the Civil War coming.
President Andrew Jackson, who died 16 years before the Civil War started, saw it coming and was angry. Would never have let it happen! Trump wrote on Twitter.
The tweet comes after Trump drew widespread backlash for asking "Why was there a Civil War?" and saying Jackson would have stopped it if he had "been a little bit later." Jackson died in 1845. The Civil War began in 1861.
Trump has previously compared his own presidential campaign to that of Jacksons, noting in March the similarity in the populist tones of their presidencies.
"It was during the revolution that Jackson first confronted and defied an arrogant elite. Does that sound familiar?" Trump told a crowd outside of Jacksons estate in Nashville, Tenn. at the time.

Sure they would, look at CALEXIT. They want it. I’m right because one country of 320 million IS NOT WORKING.
Only the good stuff.
You spoke of four nations not two. But given the quality of leadership the South demonstrated in its insane attempt to destroy the Union, I would not bet it would not be allied with other countries because of the hatred of the damn Yankees.
Washington feared the South would join with France and provoke a civil war and treason was not that far away then.
You insult every southerner with your doltish foolishness.
I am a Southerner by upbringing and sentiment. However, that does not mean I can’t recognize treason and bad decisions. The Lost Cause should have been lost.
Yes, Jackson is considered the father of the Democratic Party. And he was a slaveholder whose administration gave the American Indian the Trail of Tears.
No wonder Democrats love him.
I recently watched President Trump voicing his recognition that the job is a lot harder than he thought it would be. One thing he likes to do is have fun. I don’t think he is having a lot of fun and I wonder if he will want to run again in 2020.
Since Andrew Jackson was President from 1829 to 1837, and died 16 years before the Civil War began in 1861, he was never in a position to stop the secession. His presidency ended 24 years before the secession of the Confederate States. People in general and our President in particular need a better knowledge and understanding of important time lines in our history. If you don’t know history, then it is impossible to learn and apply the lessons of history. If our President doesn’t know and apply the lessons of history, then we may be SOL!
There had been other sectional crises prior to the Nullification Crisis. Before the War of 1812, New England states had talked about separation. Th NC was over tariffs, not slavery. Interesting that Trump is talking about tariffs now. However, the key issue that built up over the years was slavery. The Missouri Compromise was far more influential in delaying the Civil War, as it was a clear result of trying to satisfy conflicting feelings over the slavery question.
I had assumed Trump was just hypothetically stating that IF Jackson was President at that time he could have prevented the CW..
Well, welcome to an epicenter of the clash between heaven and hell, Mr. Trump. The devil wants America so intensely because it arose as one of the more shining Christian witnesses of the world, in spite of its dark spots.
This is nothing new to Mike Pence, whom I am sure is coaching Donald. If Donald doesn’t want to keep it up in four years, Mike Pence may.
Hang in there Donald. You were very optimistic because you saw what God wanted. Now you are learning what God is up against. Progress to the good is going to need what I called the “redneck revolution” (redneck being an attitude, not a race) for which “the love of God will be its food.”
I’m enthused about what he has accomplished so far.
I’ve spent 50 years watching people who profess to be Conservative lament that Planned Parenthood hasn’t been defunded.
Trump signed a bill that allows states to withhold funds from P.P. and there’s hardly a peep about it.
In addition, folks still come to the forum and posts about Trump’s failures, never listing the things he has accomplished.
It’s almost as if they are thrilled to have the opinion he’s a failure. At least that’s what it looks like.
Trump is doing fine. If he keeps it up, he’ll have been the best president in my lifetime.
Yes, Jackson was so kind to those pesky immigrant Cherokees and Choctaws.
Sorry about the delay Rebelbase. A comment on henkster’s law. I haven’t fully decided how it fits with the random act, such as the lone wacko assassin. I’ve been listening to Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History podcasts of World War 1, which is a great way to pass the time while mowing the lawn. He begins the story of World War 1 by selecting as the person who had the most impact on the 20th Century a complete nobody: Gavrilo Princip. He has a point. And an actor like Princip is completely outside the ambit of henkster’s law. How do you account for the lone gunman, who happens to effect with one shot a complete change of the existing world order?
I believe the “if X hadn’t been assassinated” is a fair alternate history, and there are so many examples you can chose from. Julius Ceasar, Abraham Lincoln, Franz Ferdinand, JFK... And what about the assassinations that didn’t happen, like Adolph Hitler and Lenin?
So you get a pass. Speculate all you want about Huey Long.
