You spoke of four nations not two. But given the quality of leadership the South demonstrated in its insane attempt to destroy the Union, I would not bet it would not be allied with other countries because of the hatred of the damn Yankees.
Washington feared the South would join with France and provoke a civil war and treason was not that far away then.
