FACEBOOK TWITTER LINKEDIN STUMBLEUPON REDDIT Source: Dodge Source: Dodge Do you have $30,000 (but no more) dog-eared for your next vehicle and are looking for something thats as fun as it is affordable? Not too long ago, your options would have been pretty limited. Not anymore, though automakers have recognized that theres a real demand for affordable cars that wont sacrifice power, performance or speed for affordability.
We recently wrote about some of the fastest cars under $20,000 and $25,000, but when you allow for an extra $5,000, the menu gets even more interesting. More and more automakers are catering to young buyers who want an affordable vehicle thats cheap to maintain and own but doesnt necessarily give up its fun factor. Cars like the Volkswagen GTI and Chevrolet Camaro have long been bargain nameplates that dont sacrifice one for the other, and while the base models start in the mid-20s, things start really to heat up around the $30,000 mark.
We checked out speediest cars under the $30,000 threshold that offer the most fun (and speed) in their segment, and found 10 models that really stand out.
1. Hyundai Genesis R-Spec 2. Chevrolet Camaro 1LT
the rest and details on each at link.

My next car will be above these, but I remember when I was in this price range.
What’s Your Pick?
My Mustang GT was $12,500.
When I was a kid growing up in the late 50s and 60s, it was not that expensive to buy power.
The large engines were more expensive but actually not by that much. The heavy duty suspensions were often only a few dollars higher.
Despite that Daddy always got a six cylinder.
I would like... none of them. But would consider a 1966 Chevy station Wagon with a straight 6, 3 on the tree, and overdrive.
Out of these I would pick the #2 Camaro. What I am looking at now is currently between the Ferrari 488 GTB and the McLaren 720S, or possibly Mercedes AMG GTR. I go back and forth and wait times factor in. My current fast car is a 2013 Audi S6 which was timed 0-60 at 3.7 seconds. Audi claims 420 HP, but the tuners with dynos say it is really 480 HP. They can tune the engine to over 600 HP as it is in the S8 car.
Have you had yours tuned to the 600hp range?
Based on my many years with a W123 I’d go with the Mercedes.
I've never had a car as kick ass. The power almost scares me.
We once had a Mercury Monarch with a 3 speed.
That is one good looking car.
No, mine is not chipped. Mine has the electronic speed limited to 155 MPH. With a new program that can be removed and the top speed is supposed to be 190 MPH without any HP increase. There are 3 stages of performance upgrades and it could affect warranty so I have not done an upgrade although there is a shop within 20 miles that can do it.
I’m with you. Old 50’s panel truck is my want. Flathead six. It’l Go for another 50 years cuz I can maintain and rebuild it myself. Hat..HATE...new compucars.
What a car. Many years ago, I had a roommate who owned a ‘67 XKE convertible, that same color. I got to drive it a few times, and I have wanted one ever since.
Wife has an X1 35i. A tad faster than the Z4 35i at 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds vs 5.2 seconds.
All four wheels spinning and the computer keeping things stable. Great car.
My college German professor drove a BMW. This was around 1970.
One day he was telling us how great the BMW was. He really liked that car.
After class I was walking across the parking lot and it was raining. There was Dr. Gara in the rain working on his windshield wiper.
When he saw me, he looked a little sheepish and said, “wouldn’t you know it”.
