Is Another Universe Sitting Too Close To Us On The Multiverse Bus?

Known as the “CMB Cold Spot”, scientists have puzzled over this anomaly for years...

...

Multiverse Theory, which was first proposed by philosopher and psychologist William James, states that there may be multiple or an even infinite number of Universes that exist parallel to our own. Between these Universes exists the entirety of existence and all cosmological phenomena – i.e. space, time, matter, energy, and all of the physical laws that bind them.

[T]he theory arose in part from the study of cosmological forces, like black holes and problems arising from the Big Bang Theory. In addition, variations on multiverse theory have been suggested as potential resolutions to theories that go beyond the Standard Model of particle physics – such as String Theory and M-theory.

Another variation – the Many-Worlds interpretation – has also been offered as a possible resolution for the wavefunction of subatomic particles. Essentially, it states that all possible outcomes in quantum mechanics exist in alternate universes, and there really is no such thing as “wavefunction collapse’. Could it therefore be argued that an alternate or parallel Universe is too close to our own, and thus responsible for the anomalies we see in the CMB?

As explanations go, it certainly is exciting, if perhaps a bit fantastic? And the Durham team is not prepared to rule out that the Cold Spot could be the result fluctuations that can be explained by the standard model of cosmology. Right now, the only thing that can be said definitively is that the Cold Spot cannot be explained by something as straightforward as a supervoid and the absence of galaxies.

And in the meantime, additional surveys and experiments need to be conducted. Otherwise, this mystery may become a real sticking point for cosmology!

Why do the crazy people always choose to sit in the empty seat next to me? The voices in my head really don’t like that.

“...in some parallel universe, President Hillary...”

Do the proponents of “Multiverses” actually posit that such a thing is possible? If so, I call BS.

Even if an infinite number of universes started from the same point in time, each of those universes would experience a myriad variations - every second - so that in a very short amount of time, each universe would be utterly and completely unique. Imagine just a dozen pool tables where the break is “identical”; however, after a very short amount of play, NONE of the tables would have the same arrangement of balls.

IOW - the chances of another Hillary existing - even plus or minus a thousand years - is infinitesimally small (not to mention the chances of said HRC running for president of the “United States”).

Imagine...in some parallel universe, President Hillary is just finishing her first 100 days after successfully getting her Supreme Court Nominee confirmed....(shudder)....

Is that the universe where Obama has a beard... other than Michelle, of course.

A cold spot has BenLurkin...indicates there is another universe?

The world isn't crazy...it's just the people in it.

But are they any less crazy over in that cold spot? -- that's what I'd like to know.

“What anomalies?” — Nathan Thurm

"I never said that. I never said there were anomalies. YOU said there were anomalies. I find it so funny you think I would say that. Why would you think I would say that?"

I guess the Miss Universe pageant needs to be renamed to the Miss Multiverse Pageant. Of course, I never seen Miss Mars, Miss Moon or Miss Neptune in the pageant, along with Miss Vulcan. :-)

No, if the number was truly infinite, then there will be duplicates. Somewhere, some of the universe would experience the same variations identical to another universe, each and every second.

If you did the math, you’d see that infinitesimal does not equal nonexistant.

“If you did the math, you’d see that infinitesimal does not equal nonexistant.”

Sure, but to say that a thing is theoretically possible does not mean that it is PROBABLE (same as the ‘Infinite monkey theorem’).

Somewhere out there in the multiverse, in another universe, you just posted that to me, and then I posted this same reply!
