Where to start
A few days ago Nassim Nicholas Taleb wrote, So we end up populating what we call the intelligentsia with people who are delusional, literally mentally deranged, simply because they never have to pay for the consequences of their actions, repeating modernist slogans stripped of all depth. In general, when you hear someone invoking abstract modernistic notions, you can assume that they got some education (but not enough, or in the wrong discipline) and too little accountability. On Monday, James Kunstler wrote, But the dishonesty at work is pretty obvious, and the problem with dishonesty in financial affairs is that it represents unreality. Last year Victor Davis Hanson penned a column in which he implied that the Post Modern world was incapable of fixing any problem worth fixing. Yesterday David Gornoski published a column entitled The Left and Right Are Splitting the American Baby in Half in which he argued that Left, right, up, down, all ideologies are convinced that if only they had the monopoly privilege of state power, they would govern rightly. Allow me to try and tie all these statements together. Why are we in the United States in 2017 living in a world of unreality where factions compete for power? As soon as my side gets a monopoly on power we can fix this. More evidence of the unreality.

Predicting complex stuff doesn’t work.

Of course this applies to AGW as well.
I was thinking the other day about ‘cold reading’ - the psychic con artist trick. The trick is to predict general things that people will apply affirmation bias to confirm — “you have had a change in your in your life” etc.
I think the reason ‘global warming’ changed to ‘climate change’ is just a cold reading trick.
No different than predicting the stock market - people will see patterns in noise.
The cure is to ask the warming proponent how much of the recent warming (about .5deg-C per century) is due to CO2 vs natural variations. Some might realize that they are ‘natural variation deniers’.
Complicated it is not. It is simple. The solution requires planning, skill and guts - and a willingness to accept the risk that some tragic result will happen, but better now than in the future when the existence of all humanity is on the line.
Did the OP get the Zot?
Yes. This is at least the second weird article that was posted...
