Things are good, a relaxing weekend of errands and getting ready for a fast paced trip to Peru this week. No major cooking but the yard is starting to come together. Hope to plant veggies in two weeks.

You?

It’s been a very busy day. Keith has been cooking up a storm, three different things that will last us all week: smoked pork butt, General Tso’s chicken and beef pot roast in the slow cooker. It’s just been housework for me.

I hope you have a safe time on your business trip.

Johnny Dollar !

Unfortunately for Johnny, The Little Princess is on TCM now; one of the best movies ever made.

Gina, you and Keith have three slow cookers going at once? Wow. I just have a seasoned boneless turkey breast going in the oven. I feel so........inadequate. LOLOL

I like to listen to the Big Broadcast, especially Johnny Dollar. Tonight The Little Princess was showing on TCM at the same time.

Oh, no, Viking! He only had one slow cooker going. Keith was smoking the butt outside on the Big Green Egg, and he did the General Tso’s Chicken in frying pans on the stove. :-) Which reminds me, I gotta make some rice.

Oy, vey, I got about a hundred beefsteaks, 70 California Wonder green bells, 50 stalks of Silver Queen white corn, and dozens of yellow straightneck and Italian zucchini squash as well as green beans going in flats and peat pots that need to be planted PRONTO. Haven't even started the cukes and okra yet, but they grow like weeds. The front porch looks like Lowe's Garden Center. We're in the process of overhauling the courtyard/cookout area and repainted the planter's bench, so a four-pillar covered porch has become the de facto nursery. I wanted to get some mowing, tilling, and putting down garden tarp done today, but it rained for twelve hours and scotched the whole project. We have to finish repainting that big, coffin-sized planter box on the patio and add several more cubic feet of soil to it, and I have two bags of red Norland seed potatoes in the garage that have roots so big, they look like tentacles ready to reach out and grab you. I got a concern with the Anna apple tree I planted last year - it doesn't appear to be dead, it just isn't budding like it should have. If we don't see any signs of life in the next couple of weeks, we're going to dig it up, pot it, and nursemaid it for the summer. I have a Fuji apple tree ready to replace it (it'll cross-pollinate with the Honeycrisp tree in our orchard, as well). The Keiffer pear and nectarine trees are doing great, as are the peach trees - the we already have several small fruit on them. Now, if we can keep the damned squirrels away. This weekend was a bust, which makes me dread next weekend. That's why I try to at least do one little thing after I come home from work, no matter how I feel. The more I put it off, the harder the price I'll pay when I have to address it. Gardening is the worst 'kick the can down the road' hobby you could ever - ever - have. Not to mention I wandered into our local version of Home Depot yesterday, and discovered that they have their remaining stock of rose bushes marked down to .99 apiece, so I impulsively grabbed ten, and will probably impulsively go back tomorrow and empty them out, because the missus loves to grow her roses.

We're just trying to get the roast out, and make gravy and mashed potatoes with five cats on the counters acting like it's a fun house, and it's turned into a Chinese fire drill out there! LOLOL
