I'm giving a talk in early June to a group on the topic of the Knights of Columbus, Who are they? What are they? What have they done for our community in the past; what can they do for our community in the future? What are public perceptions of the Knights of Columbus? I'll also cover some very interesting history of the local Council which has been around for nearly 120 years.
I suspect there are members of the Knights of Columbus who don't really know the answers to these questions.
I'm interested in what non-members of the public think, so, I'm basically conducting a survey of what freepers think of "who the Knights of Columbus are" and "what exactly they do"
Your comments are greatly appreciated.
that was pretty ignorant .....they do GREAT things, of whichbyounwould know nothing.
Well Knights of Columbus is the Catholic version of FreeMasons .....but retains it’s allegience to their church and Pope rather than Herman Labyth or whatever his name is Masons swear an oath to.
They have rites, rituals, degrees and “promises’ rather than oaths etc. but focused on the teachings of the catholic church and Pope.
It denies it has “secrets”...however they are told not to reveal their business dealings or what takes place at their meetings.
FreeMasons is cultish........and initially Catholics were not welcomed...thus they established their own group...with similar degrees etc.. But not the focus on Free Masons fake deity.
Why are you giving a talk about a subject you know nothing about? Sounds fishy to me. Who are you giving the talk to?
?
I know the answers. I’m a member in good standing and have been for many years, and am a current officer. My post was intended to survey people to see what the perception of the public is. My suspicion is there’s a lot of misinformation out there.
You misunderstood my post. I know a lot about them. . Im a member in good standing and have been for many years, and am a current officer. My post was intended to find out what the public perception is.
Did I say something bad that offended you for some reason?
Did I really?
In case you didn’t know, our local KofC
http://www.kofc4444.com/activities.html
has what they refer to as Tootsie Roll Drives, where they get permit from the county to raise funds at traffic lights by handing out Tootsie Rolls.
I never accept the candy, since I should not be eating it, I just give them the money and tell them to give the Tootsie Rolls to the car behind me...................
The Masons are a shell of themselves these days.
Plumed hats. Low-cost group insurance.
....”The Masons are a shell of themselves these days”....
Yes...can’t attract younger men who have better things to do with their time and don’t buy the sales pitch. Mostly old men linger on.
As for charity...people are tired of footing the bill and just donating directly to where they choose rather than go through organizations.
Those are 4th Degree Knights. You must be a “regular” Knight first (3rd Degree)to apply. 4th Degree Knights exemplify the virtue of patriotism.
The Knights are not a secret organization. The themes are Charity, Unity, and Fraternity for degrees 1-3. 4th degree is patriotism. All enfold aspects of Christian Faith in these themes.
It’s the bar where my grandpa would take me when I was a little kid and later when I was old enough to have a beer with him. It’s the place where we’d go for catfish dinners on Fridays and where most of the extended Italian family’s wedding receptions were held. Great memories. When he died, the KC guys did a little ceremony at the funeral home.
Doh
Cool :)
I think the Knights here on Staten Island might be a little bit different than all the others.
I didn’t even know it was a countrywide organization so i’m keeping my mouth shut!
I think it's WORLDWIDE...................
Yeah I’m keeping my mouth shut on this one here on in!!
Great!! God is good.
Now she’s just driving me crazy with the insurance process! :)
She walked away from a totaled car with some back pain. It’s incredible.
I’m gonna have to crawl off the board at this point the rest of the day...
KOC, I was taught as a kid, were, uh, forget it.
I don’t want to end up as part of a RICO indictment.
I heard the same thing and a load of my friends are members of both.
