I stand corrected. I once met both Baez and Harris when they were married.
I thought her accent in “The night they drove old dixie down” was as contrived as Hilary’s “I ain’t no ways tired.”
I preferred the Band’s version.
Like Frankie Valli said, Joan was trying to ‘talk like a man!’. Yes, the appalachian dilect did seem fake, but as usual, her virbrato and contralto were superb.
