Fans dont like to let their favorites go, but now they dont have to. We live in a world desperate to remake, reboot, and flat-out return to beloved franchises, hunting the closest thing to a sure audience there is. But the more beloved these continuations are, they harder they are to get right. Fans want them to somehow be exactly the same while still being fresh and new, an impossible requestexcept, it turns out, for the return of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
The show returns today on Netflix with its 11th season, 18 years after season 10 ended in 1999. Theres an all-new cast, but its still the same show you rememberwhere two mad scientists force an affable guy and his two robot pals to watch bad, cheesy, and sometimes truly wretched movies, and they make fun of it. Its a concept that is truly timeless, which may be the primary reason that the new MST3K feels like its effortlessly picked back up right where it left off. But whats newthe cast, the sets, the mad scientists house band(!)these things too feel authentically Mystery Science Theater, to the point where I have a hard time imagining even the most trepidatious fan being disappointed with the shows return.

Agreed. The chemistry of the riffmakers is critical to the success of the show. I knew that the actors were libs but they were funny libs. Anyone who catches “Watter’s World” knows that a substantial segment of our society holds a paper-thin understanding of the world around them.
I wish them luck.
I find tremendous irony in some of the MST3K spoofs from the 50's. Those PSA-type productions by the Ag Council and Safety Council....they are so goofy to watch now, but they teach core principles for life: how to work safely, how to drive, how to save money, etc. It's great to make fun on them like Mike and bots did, but I find endearing qualities in those lessons. We do not have any grounding of the sort in today's society.
Mistie Bump!!!
And so it...continues?
All about the chemistry - I have watched some of the Rifftrax live shows and Nelson, Corbett, & Murphy are fantastic together. Not sure if the new crowd can recreate this. Maybe they will do fine in their own way.
Couldn’t agree more. Twice the jokes of the originals
AND they didn’t give in to working in blue material. I can watch it with my kids. Five stars for this reboot
heard that little leftist troll from King of Queens is in it, Oswald something or other.
might have to pass on this.
Deep Hurting was my name on Netrek. Whether it was the pain I gave or the pain I suffered depended on the game situation.
For me the key to success with shows like this is modest expectations. I don’t approach them demanding to be dazzled - just make me laugh a bit and please try to limit gratuitous offense. Other than that I’ll be fine.
I must admit that reading that anyone involved in any way with a bottom-feeder like john stewart raises my hackles. We’ll see how it goes.
Wow, has it been that long? Maybe they should rename it Mystery Science Theater 3018..........
I’ll miss Trace!
There may be a free month of Netflix available.
And of course the www.Rifftrax.com guys are on fire. Go see Samurai Cop at a theater near you Tuesday.
If you don’t subscribe to Netflix but have a Roku box, Comet TV carries MST 3000 on Sunday evenings. And their streaming channel can be added for free.

lol
Comet TV is also available in many areas over the air through an antenna. It recently replaced GET TV in my area.
I watched an episode on my laptop/netflix last night. I was entertained.
