I think they still have some feeling. In early surgeries they just removed it and there was no feeling. The thinking is this approach will cause less depression.

One wonders how surgeons think this stuff up and how they sleep at night.

As a side note, my wife fretted about declawing her cat (and didn’t do it) but didn’t give a second thought about having him neutered.
