KINGSPORT Bird watchers helped rescue a bald eagle from the South Fork of the Holston River this week after witnesses say the eagle was attacked by Canada geese defending their nest.
The feathered skirmish took place Monday evening along the riverfront section of the Kingsport Greenbelt, starting on land near a goose nest below Riverfront Seafood. Witnesses say the eagle fell into the river after being attacked by a flock of geese, with the geese continuing to attack the eagle in the water.
Birding Kingsport the local bird watching club had been out along the Greenbelt and were wrapping up their meeting when they noticed an eagle entangled in some limbs on the island behind Riverfront Seafood.
The geese were attacking it, said Rack Cross, vice president of Birding Kingsport. It looked like (the eagle) was scavenging a goose nest (near the restaurant), it got entangled and four or five geese were attacking it.

Goose crap qualifies as WMDs.
Now, go ahead and breed him into the gene pool to create Eagles that act like Golden Retrievers.
——My guess is that they kill him——
He was taken to a vet to check out his bad wing. In this area there is a group that takes in injured raptors and has a good success rate of rehab and return to the wild.
Yeah, I occasionally find a patch of rabbit fur in my yard and know the hawks have been there. Still, that's the predator's role in the world - I can't hate them for being the killing machines that God created. I just wish they'd kill the damned squirrels that chew on my house and leave the rabbits alone.
Speaking of squirrels, I find it far more disturbing when one of them devours a baby bird than when a raptor does. Those furry, fluffy tails are pure deception - there's nothing cute about squirrels. They are vermin with good PR.
Here is a live cam on baby Bald Eagles.

Canadian geese are as tough as nails. I saw one hit by a car on hwy last week. It was flying low across hwy, probably taking off out of ditch, hit square on front grill of car doing 60+. Goose pushed up and half sideways. .... then just about hits ground because of not being able to recover to flight mode quick enough....one foot hits ground but up it goes, shakey first 30 seconds, I think it will just fall and die....but no it gains altitude and banks back and around the way it came, while squawking sh*t at the car that hit it. One tough critter.
shoulda just let nature take it’s course- we don’t need no stinkin sissy eagles flyin around
I thought true nature lovers were not supposed to interfere.
Of course I would have but I’m a blue-collared redneck.
It’s the only way to be sure.
How would you look if you were supposedly one of the baddest birds in the sky and had your ass handed to you by a couple of geese?
Hope to see a video of him when he is released.
