Didn’t read the entire thing because it sounded like more stupidity comping from Cali.
Sorry the dog drowned but the owner should have done so 1st and the dog would have never been put in a pool.
I thought dogs instinctively knew how to swim.
I have never heard of doggie swimming lessons.
First world problem.
“Prices start at $32 for a single swim “experience,” but there are discounts for advanced buys of 10 swims ($290) or 20 ($520). For the frequent swimmer, a monthly membership costs $125 for one dog or $225 for two dogs. There are extra fees for private swimming (nongroup) and assisted swimming with an instructor.”
Dogs don’t need to be taught how to swim. Paying someone to teach them is stupid. The losers are the ones who would pay for this.
I had to click on a second link to figure out this is in Chicago.
Oh, for heavens sake. Canine aquatic center. Who needs a canine aquatic center? More stupidity. Some people think their dogs are children.
When does the law suit begin?
I’ve had Golden Retrievers that taught themselves to swim quite easily and naturally, first wading in a pond and then they just start swimming. I never heard of giving a dog swimming lessons. Maybe only certain breeds take well to the “doggy paddle”????
Interesingly, I did have one Golden who absolutely refused to swim. He would wade along the edge of the pond, always refusing to go very deep even as he watched his brother merrily swimming around the deep parts of the pond. It was quite a wonder to see how many times he could watch his brother swim and yet never decide to join in the fun. His brother would fetch sticks and balls all over the pond, but he would only try for them when they came within reach in the shallow waters.
The only time I knew of swimming pool lessons for dogs was people would take their dogs in the built in pool so the dogs could learn where the steps were and how to get out. But we were always right there to help the dog figure it out.
Did these peole just throw the dog in the pool and go for a latte? Something doesnt make sense.
are there any words to express how stupid this is?
Very sad.
Some breeds take to water like they were born to it, some are indifferent but OK with it and some hate even being wet and putting them into a pool to “teach” them to swim is actually tormenting the animal. People need to stop trying to conform their dogs to some predetermined image they have of what that dog should be. Different breeds have different traits. Learn those traits and adjust your expectations, if you couldn’t be bothered to learn them beforehand. Beyond training a pet dog social niceties and house training them, things every dog can and will learn, stop trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
“Tragic” is when a child dies. Unfortunate or regrettable is a more appropriate word choice for the death of an animal.
Our parks department would open the local pool for dogs the day after the pool closed for the season, but before they were drained for the winter. Our lab mix loved the experience and could instinctively swim. However some breeds, particularly English bulldogs, are definitely not swimmers.
Say what?!? A doggy pool? Some people have way too much money and too little common sense.
First, you don’t need a doggy pool. Second, you don’t force a dog into the water. Third, that vest isn’t going to help with anything. Fourth, it’s your dog so it’s your responsibility to make sure he’s safe.
Poor dog didn’t stand a chance with an idiot owner and a cruel incompetent teacher.
I hate when my tragic dog dies.
My Irish Setter could swim better than me. I thought all dogs were like that.
