Why was the Attack on Syria consistent with the Constitution?

Trump just instigated an unprovoked missile attack on a Sovereign Nation that posed no direct or immediate threat to our National Security or American Citizens.

Explain to me why this act of war without any input from Congress is consistent with our Founding Documents and our Constitution?

Oct 31, 2013 - Syria’s declared equipment for producing, mixing and filling chemical weapons has been destroyed, the international watchdog says.

This comes a day before the deadline set by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The weapons have been placed under seal, an OPCW spokesman said.

Inspectors were sent to Syria following allegations, denied by the government, that its forces had used chemical weapons in civilian areas.

Now that the equipment has been put beyond use, Syria has until mid-2014 to destroy the chemical weapons themselves.

In Washington, US state department official Thomas Countryman said: “I am increasingly confident that we will be able to complete this task... within the target date of 30 June of next year”.

Jun 23, 2014 - Syria has handed over the last of its declared stockpile of chemical weapons, which will be destroyed at sea over the next two months, the UN’s chemical weapons watchdog has said.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical weapons (OPCW) announced that the final 8% of Syria’s acknowledged arsenal of chemical weapons and precursors had been loaded on to a Danish freighter.

The ship, the Ark Futura, is now sailing to the Italian port of Gioia Tauro for a rendezvous with an American vessel, the MV Cape Ray, which is specially equipped to neutralise the most dangerous of the chemical agents at sea.

“The mission to eliminate Syria’s chemical weapons programme has been a major undertaking marked by an extraordinary international cooperation,” said Ahmet Uzumcu, the OPCW’s director-general. “Never before has an entire arsenal of a category of weapons of mass destruction been removed from a country experiencing a state of internal armed conflict. And this has been accomplished within very demanding and tight timeframes.”

However, Uzumcu added that the OPCW was not in a position to certify that Syria no longer had any chemical weapons. The materials removed were those that the regime had declared.

Western governments claim to have intelligence suggesting that Damascus has not admitted to all its chemical arms. An OPCW investigation team has found evidence that chlorine gas was used against civilians in recent months “in a systematic manner”, but the team has been unable to reach the site for further investigation because it came under attack.

Possession of chlorine is not a violation of the chemical weapons treaty, as it is a commonly used chemical, so Syria was not required to list chlorine on its declared inventory. But its use as a weapon is a violation of international law.

Apr 2017 - Syria claims that when their aircraft bombed the ISIS held town of Khan Sheikhoun a bomb struck an arsenal, that the chemicals are from the arsenal and not from their bomb. Chlorine is the chemical agent suspected.

Is this claim plausible?

In February, 2016, then CIA director John Brennan stated during a “60 Minutes” interview, “We have a number of instances where ISIL has used chemical munitions on the battlefield.” “The CIA believes that ISIS has the ability to manufacture small quantities of chlorine and mustard gas.” http://www.cbsnews.com/news/cia-director-john-brennan-60-minutes-scott-pelley/

In November, 2016, The New York Times wrote, “The Islamic State has used chemical weapons, including chlorine and sulfur mustard agents, at least 52 times on the battlefield in Syria and Iraq since it swept to power in 2014, according to a new independent analysis.” https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/21/world/middleeast/isis-chemical-weapons-syria-iraq-mosul.html

October, 2014, The Washington Post reports, “[IS uses] chlorine gas against Iraqi security forces”. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/islamic-state-militants-allegedly-used-chlorine-gas-against-iraqi-security-forces/2014/10/23/c865c943-1c93-4ac0-a7ed-033218f15cbb_story.html

July, 2015, The New York Times reports, “ISIS Has Fired Chemical Mortar Shells”, “The Islamic State appears to have manufactured rudimentary chemical warfare shells” https://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/18/world/middleeast/islamic-state-isis-chemical-weapons-iraq-syria.html

September, 2016, Fox News reports, “ISIS believed to have attacked US base in Iraq with chemical agent” http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/09/21/isis-may-have-attacked-us-base-in-iraq-with-chemical-agent.html

The US government believes ISIS possesses and can manufacture chemical weapons, including chlorine. There are reports over the past several years of ISIS using chemical weapons.

Is there a doubt that ISIS would store or manufacture chemical weapons or their precursors among civilians? ISIS puts people in cages and sets them on fire, hangs people by their limbs and roasts them alive, beheads people, sometimes in mass-beheadings. There is no doubt that ISIS would not hesitate.

The US says it has tracked a Syrian plane from Shayrat Airfield to Khan Sheikoun, and back to Shayrat Airfield. Syria does not dispute this. This does not prove Syria delivered a chemical weapon.

I am not saying Syria did or did not drop chemical munitions, only that Syria’s claim appears plausible.

Go do some research for yourself and stop being a drama queen looking for more attention. There’s an abundance of reference materials out there explaining why what Trump did was perfectly legal. Stop beating a dead horse with this. 2 days of your whining and complaining is getting old.

Turmoil in Syria has allowed ISIS to flourish there. ISIS has declared war on us. We retaliated.

The Constitution says that Congress shall have the power to declare war. There is no mention of any OBLIGATION to issue declarations of war.

In 1789, only offensive wars were declared.

Today, offensive war is prohibited by international law.

Thus, the power to declare war is obsolete.

In other words, the periodic caterwauling from “constitutionalists” about the “Constitutional requirement” of declarations of war is absolutely pointless, in addition to NOT being based in the words of the Constitution.

Hardly. No worse that backhanding a bully...assuming the bully was not behaving.

I like that Assad and Russia is out to defeat islams worst, but if it was political, I don’t care because there is no islam trash worth caring about.

Don’t follow the evil if you are a good person. islam is pure evil.

I’m not losing my mind over it. I know the president can make these sections without Congress if there is an eminent threat to us, and I don’t see another Muslim attack on their own as an imminent attack on us.

The good thing I see about this is it probably got the attention and respect of world leaders.

To: P-Marlowe; All

So for you and all of the Anti-Trumpers on here complaining about everything, were you upset when Reagan invaded Grenada without a declaration of war? Were you upset when Reagan retaliated for the Marine Barracks bombing in Lebanaon without a Declaration of War? Were you upset when Reagan bombed Libya in retailation for the West German discotheque bombing without a declaration of war? We all know Reagan could do no wrong from many of your viewpoints, but i dont remember Reagan getting Congressional approval for any of these acts.

The common thread is that they were in retailaition for loss of American life OR protection of American lives. Same as Trump’s reasoning for last night. So, many of you are either incredibly lazy in not doing your research, ill informed of past history, or hypocritical in bashing President Trump for doinf the same things your prior hero did. Newsflash, President Trump,is far more conservative than President Reagan and as of yet, has not raised taxes, signed amnesty, or been involved in an arms for hostages deal. The Drama Queens are out of control since last night around here.

Of course what Obama did with drones and just about everything else was unconstitutional. What does Obama have to do with the question?

Your entire comments are without merit.

Funny thing, did you have such a visceral reaction when Obama used force in Syria??

“and I don’t see another Muslim attack on their own as an imminent attack on us.”

We did for Saddam. Saddam said he was going to deploy dirty nukes to US Soil. Bush went in and smeared his underwear all over his face for that one.

Look what the media did to that. Buried it deep, deep and deeper still.

These security sessions aren’t played on youtube. But look at it this way:

Even if the chemical attacks were fake (They likely were) then the inspections of gas weapons found in Syria had Cyrillic written all over them spelling out return addresses somewhere north of Georgia.

If the US found a TON of chemical weapons in Syria as supplied by Russia - With the support of NATO or even without the support of NATO - and then asked Russia about them -—— I think Russia would say “Yeah, why don’t you just go ahead and get rid of those. We’ll get out of the way.”

I expect minimal international fallout from this. Trump is a businessman, after all, so I expect he contacted the other major parties in advance.

I’m more curious about the uncounted special ops missions into Syria this week that we won’t learn about for 20 years.

ISIS and the Syrian rebels are the creation, financing, training, and supplying by the US for ousting Assad. Never heard of proxy wars?

The poison gas attack by the Syrian regime on the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhoun killed at least 74 people — including 16 women and 23 children — and wounded over 350, according to the Syrian American Medical Society. Videos and photos taken by activists and medics on the scene showed victims choking and fainting, some with foam coming out of their mouths. Thius reaction is a byproduct of Sarin gas.

A few hours later, Syrian warplanes launched another airstrike on one of the medical clinics where victims of the first attack were being treated, the New York Times reports. Let that sink in for a moment: Bashar al-Assad gassed his own people, then bombed those desperately trying to save the lives of those suffering and dying from the chemicals. .Assad has used chemicals on civilians over 50 times since 2014. Ever seen what it looks like? I have, and it’s ugly.

Prior to the missile attack, Trump warned Russia to remove their people from the airfield we know launched the gas attack so as not to harm them. It should be obvious that they told their allies in Syria to get out also. This attack was to send a message to Assad and Putin that the use of chemical weapons was not to be repeated.

And unlike Assad’s attack, we hit only the airfield involved and didn’t follow up on it by killing other innocents in a medical facility. Russia has been arming dissident countries like Syria, Iran, and Iraq for years with the capacity to use chemical weapons. We are finding evidence os ISL using mustard gas as we speak and there is a strong possibility Russia provided it. It needs to stop

And Ruissia can place a ship in Syria as a threat any time they wish. But if they fire on American craft in the region, they will pay a harsh penalty. One that has been left open for way too many years. And if they consider the gassing of innocents a normalcy, they are no better than the animals that actually accomplish the brutal action.

We haven’t been a Constitutional republic since the beginning of the American Civil War. Since then we’ve been an empire no different than the Roman Empire and no different than the Tower of Babel.

The goal of the US? Bringing about a Leftist, atheist, pagan one-world government. It’s right there on the back of reverse seal of the US Dollar.
